Getting the most for my money.

Hi, I'm sort of new to mustang forums but not to the mustang. I 've owned my 2001 GT Convt. since 2003 but am just now starting to get in to the performance scene. I was just looking to get some helpful info on what i could do to get my car the fastest it can be by the end of winter.

I currently have flowmaster cat back exhuast and the rest is stock. Although i did order a 70mm tb and plenum with cold air intake that expect to come in soon. Thanks for your responses in advance. Oh, ya i have a limited budget of 2,000. - Steven

$2000 can get you cams and a dyno tune. Thats probaly the best bang for the buck. Longtubes would make the absoloute most of the gain with cams, but depending on labor costs, or if you do it yourself this may put you over the budget, you need longtubes and a midpipe made for longtubes, plus installation if you dont do it yourself.

If you dont want to go that route, I would say go longtubes (pretty much best bang for the buck aside from forced induction or cams), gears, and a good tune.

OK, thanks. I will probly be able to most the work my self, I would just need to order the parts.

No problem... thats cool you would do the work yourself, that definatly saves some $. Just make sure your up for a task if you settle on cams, or longtubes. Cam installs on the 4.6's are fairly involved from what everyone says, and longtubes are a PITA to install. Most people recommend totally dropping the K-member and holding the engine up to do the install... too much for my driveway mechanic skills, hahaha.

Im sure some other people will chime in with their opinions on it also.

What cams would be ideal for thoes cars, I am sorta in
the same boat, I would like to know what is the best
CAMS to go with,, my plans are to get an exhaust.

I would say vt cams the stage 1s are really good cams especially if you do not want to install new valve springs. Hotmustang put down 292rwhp with the vt stage 1s and all the boltons. He also ran a 12.79 at like 109 with some drs.

Ideal? What are your plans? What is your goals? Is emission a concern? Driveablity? Do you wanna replace valve springs?
