I checked around in the sound and shine forum, couldnt find anything.
I have a 2002 Stang, it has a factory tape and cd combo, and i was just wondering if it is a straight forward swap, IE(i pull out the factory deck, cut the wires and connect them accordingly to my alpine wiring harness) or is it more complicated then that cause i would like to be able to put the factory deck unit back if i want to sell it.

Also i heard it is kinda difficult to pull out the factory unit, is this true, and will i need a special deck tool to lift it out ?

Thanks again

YA there is no need to cut any wires. I hope you have better luck getting the deck out than I did I got the cd deck out easily but the tape deck the clips were bent in to far so the removal tools didnt do anything. I ended up drilling them out. No clue why they were bent so far out. WHne you put in your new deck you should do what I did and cut a piece of sheepmetal spraypaint it black and use chrome spraypaint and spell mustang on it. Takes time to do it right but it looks sweet. makes it look like it belgons there.

yeah don't cut the wires, you can usually find a wiring harness at wal-mart supercenters in the auto department, it makes the whole thing so much easier. Just don't buy any of the crappy other stuff they have there for audio! other than that and maybe some fuses.

Okay, here's the deal. 2002 comes stock with the mach 460. if you want to put in an aftermarket headunit, you will need to get a converter ($150). Your mach amps are designed to get a non-amplified input signal, and when you send back 30-50+ watts or so, it flips and doesn't know what to do, thus no sound, and possibly blowing everything. So you get your headunit, your $150 adapter which gives you an unamplified signal, and you're good because you just plug your current harness stuff into the converter, then plug your aftermarket radio into that.

I have a 2002 stang

it is real easy to take the radio out

I have a non-vert that does not have the mach 460 the cd/tape headunit just un bolted. They have an aftermarket adapter that can be picked up at most audio shops or circuit city. They have one if you want to but a radio and a screen on top in the same hole.....a little modifacation to the kit is needed but looks great i will try to take some pics

You will need the special deck tool to remove the stock unit, you can purchase one for like autozone or something, also, you dont wanna go cutting wires, just buy a wiring harness for your model stang.

2001+ Mustangs do not need a Ford key to remove the headunit. Just yank the plastic cover out of the center and you will see it is held in by two screws.

I took the stock cassete/cd player out of my '01, but I can't put it in my dad's 2001 Grand Marquis(came with cassette) because his car uses the Ford Key locks, and my '01 doesn't.

i have a 2003 and i replaced mu stock with an alpine head unit, go to www.crutchfield.com there youcan buy the right wire harness that you will need and they sell a kit to fit into the space. ( since your alpine is not as big as the stock) THe kit works great and it takes about 5 minutes to install. My install looks clean, so you might want to take a look at that site.
