I have the steeda ultralite II's 17x9. I wanted to put a wider tire in the back...like a 315 or 295. I have 275's on the back now. I heard of a place south of me (im in pittsburgh) that widens wheels. This seems like it would be lots of $$$. I dont know if it would be worth it...is it safe....will it be hard to get the wheels balanced after that? would I have to use a spacer? Or can I get a little wider tire on a 9" wide wheel. I heard that 275 series BFG KD's are about an inch wider than most 275 series tires...is this true?

I had mine widened a while back. Balanced perfectly, looked great, and I never had a problem with them. I did have to use a 1" H&R spacer with them. Also BFG's are wider but I don't know by how much!

It was $200 per wheel. that included the donor wheel
$150 per wheel, if you have your own donor wheels!

yeah i think that's pushing your luck putting a 315 on a 9 inch wheel. the biggest i'd go on a 9 inch wheel is 295.

When I was into F-bodies lots of guys ran 315's on SS and WS6 wheels that were 17x9. Some had problems, some didn't. Probably depends on your luck.

Also, why spend $200 on a wheel that doesn't cost much more than that (unless you have chrome) in the first place. I would buy two new wheels and then sell your old ones on Ebay or through the classifieds (Corral, Mod Depot, etc) and make up some of your money.

Edit: I just realized they don't make wider ultra-lites unless you go to 18's. I'd still have a tough time spending $200 on a $229 wheel to get it widened.

yeah... mine are 9's and Mille Miglia doesn't make anything wider or narrower for that matter... so i have no other choice... and I am considering widening right now... i think about 10" is fine
