GETTNG BAKED-ON GUNK OFF WINDSHIELD!!!

I can't believe this! I just bought a nice, used '06 lease return convert. v6 at a great price from a dealer about 60 miles north of us. BUT, when they detailed the car prior to letting me drive it away, the dumb %^$&%^#%'s who did it sprayed the windshield with the same liquid detailer they were using on the body. I didn't think anything of it at the time as they really did-up the body paint real nice and thinking I could easily re-clean the windshield when I got it home. HOWEVER, I have used all the auto glass cleaners I have and even Windex with ammonia, then PURE ammonia, and the stuff is still on there. I'd drive it back up there an' give'em hell, but I don' wanna waste the time and gas. Did this stuff get BAKED on when I drove the car back down on the freeway for the 60 miles on a nice, warm day? WHAT else can I use to remove it, short of taking it to a glass shop and spending $$?

Coca-cola works wonders. The acids therein break down many oils and solvents. Be careful to keep it off of painted surfaces and vinyl.

Anyone thirsty now?

That reminds me when we bought our van used. The auction where the dealer picked it up from used that "marker" to put the lot # on the back glass. It wouldn';t come off untill i ended up using some Mothers mag cleaner to pull it off.

Alcohol or mineral spirits should work.

Or if you have a non-acetone nail polish remover -- avoid the paint.

Bon Ami?

Okay, i just used straight Dawn dish detergent and a wet bug spong to apply it and rinsed it off with H2O. It seemed to help quite a bit, but some is still there (maybe on the inside and from cigarette smoke residue from former drivers or owners as this was a "program car.") For the remainder on the outside, I've seen some places online where they advocate using the household cleanser Bon Ami? Any of you guys have any experience with that? What would you use, then, the Bon Ami cleanser or the powder?

From what I can remember from my Dad, BON AMI was a bar, like a soap bar. They used it to clean car windows and it was the best. I have seen it in a few stores in aerosol spray and sometimes in cleanser can. I used it for a while as a daily glass cleaner. For what your asking, your probably talking about more of the cleanser type, since the aerosol has no aggressiveness. But their motto is it will not scratch.
