Hey,

Im in the middle of getting forged 331 parts stuffed in a dart block and am also in the market for a new 5spd tranny. I have done quite a bit of research and still have came up clueless on what to do.

I have talked to Gforce many times along with Astro performance about a T5. Both sound great, however, Gforce mentioned that their trannys were not really meant to go over about 20-30k miles!! apparently it has to do with the gear material made more for high HP and not longevity.

anyways....

I would just like anyones personal experience in this category because the last thing I want is to pay 4K for a tranny and replace parts after 30k miles!!

thanks
Eric

Tremec T56, power handling, extra gear, and last a good long time. I've been through the same thing, and running similar to what your running (331 w/SQ in future) I've narrowed it down to a 6-speed. Good Luck, haven't had any personal experience with a G-Force however.

. That's what I'm about to do! I'm tired of hastling with this. Does anyone know if there has to be any other changes done to make the tko work after the bellhousing and cross member are changed

If you want to go fast, you would by a c-4! But if you're going to stay stick, how much hp/tq are you trying to make? It is true that the gear materials in some racing 5 speeds are softer, they handle the shock better but do not last nearly as long. you trade longevity on the street for reliability at the track!

No changes are needed other than the bellhousing and rear crossmember for a Tremec 3550. I had a 3550 in my previous 5.0 Mustang and never feared breaking it from hard shifting or high mileage. As long as they are kept lubricated with the correct GM Synchromesh Black lubricant, they are just about bulletproof

The TKO 500 & 600 are upgrades from the 3550 unit.

The TKO 500 uses a different rear yolk which normally comes with the trans when you buy the package. It uses the same clutch disk as the T5.

The TKO 600 uses a 26 spline 10.5" Chevy clutch disk because it has a 26 spline input shaft. It also a different rear yolk which normally comes with the trans when you buy the package.
