Glow gage question

I have these:

and I have a question in case anyone already knows. Right now I have to supply power to the transformer then push a button to turn the lights on/off. Can I jsut bypass the button?

Now here is how I figured I could find out as well:

1. supply power to the transformer and push the button to turn them on.
2. disconnect the button and see what happens.
3. monitor the voltage across the button when on and not on
4. can I monitor resistance of the button to determine if it is momentary (i would think it is).

I run the SpeedHut EL-glow gauges. I don't have any switch to turn them on, the power to the transformer is tapped from the parking like wire on the headlight switch.

If that button you have is a single-pole, single-throw (regular switch), you could have it always on and pull the hot lead from the parking light switched power like I did. If the switch is momentary, you might be able to set up a creative relay system that is powered by the headlight switch to do the same.
 
I have the EXACT same ones. They are for the 4.6 cause the tach is different. I am ordering some new ones soon. But no, you can just connect the wires for the switch together. The way they work is wierd. I call it a "pulse" switch cause thats what it seems like. First thing I would do it ditch the little button it comes with, mine broke in about 2 weeks. I hooked up a regular switch to them and I have to turn on my lights, and flip the switch. Now heres the wierd part. I can turn off the switch and they stay on, but if I turn it on again they go off and then I turn it off and they stay off. So long story short, no you have to have a switch in there.

If you wire the switch wires to the headlight switch and get it working let me know which wires you used.
 
If the power wires are 2 loose wires, you can connect them to the 2 contacts on the center bulb on the back of the bezel....THEN, when you screw the bulb piece back in, the wires will connect to the circuit board on the back....THEN you leave your switch on, but NO power will go unless you turn your headlights on.

There is a hot wire, ground, and then two more wires for the switch. I think the hot would have to be wired to a wire that is hot in run. and the switch wires would have to be wired to a hot wire when the lights are on.
