My search for T5 and trannyfluid seems that most use Dexron whatever, but have found a couple that use GM synchromesh in their T5s.

Having just rebuilt my T5 - are any of you guys using the GM Synchromesh? Why or why not? Are there benefits to this $10/quart fluid?

Synchromesh is what tremec says to use in their transmissions. I used just normal dextron oil in mine also.

Why not go synthetic? I just love Red Line products!

Use regular Dextron ATF fluid....do not put syncromesh in the T-5 the clutches are not made for it.

The synthetics are nice but they tend to not let the tranny go into gear in high rpms, we have seen this a few times.

Rick - what you mean by 'clutches' specifically? Are you talking about the clutching teeth on the gears and sliders?

T5's should have at least Dexron.

My Jeep T5 was filled with plain old 90 wt gear oil when I got it. A very experienced local Jeep specialty shop said it would work fine as long as it was hot out, (he is in south Georgia) but to change it when I otherwise normally would.

It worked just fine for 3 years, I had to change the 3-4 synchro, and I refilled it with Dexron. Still worked fine.

I think the Dexron works in all of them. I know there are both brass and paper material faced synchros. I would not use gear oil in the paper type units. Dexron works in all of them. The newer fluids should be even better.
