i have herad that since the piston skirts on the 347 are so short that once they get some heat in em they start to warp and wallow out the ctylinders and therefore you start usin oil. so ill stick with my 331

Hi 90,

Instead of trying to critisize you and "sound" smarter than you, I will try to help you.

Click on the link in my signature about stroker engines. It may give you a new outlook.

The "warp" issue you are speaking of is not an issue. Engines and decent to good engine builders today have much better products to work with and make the engines much tighter than in the "old days."

It is not anything to worry about.

If you are are also worried about the oil ring running into the wrist pin, there are kits available that have a taller piston (1.175") compared to the shorter piston (1.090") that keep the ring out of the wrist pin area.

It allows you to have a 347 still

Good Luck.

well as of right now im more than likely gettin a 331 built for my graduation present. only thing not for sure is the short block im gonna use. i have a couple options.
1. a friend with a factory short block with 76,000 miles on it(not sure how much he is gonna charge)

or

2. DSS racing 331 shortblock

just waitin on a price from my friend on that factory shortblock.

but if i dont get to do either of those the Trickflow H/C/I is on the way and will get put on motor that i have now. So its a win-win for me either way

i really hope i can do the 331 cuz if i do ill have a spare bullet sitin in the garage in case somethin happens. plus the power is gonna be tremendous!!

See my setup? im about two weeks away from getting my tune and i have the dss 331 pro bullet. Try to hold off for a bit and ill give you my numbers and this will possibly help you on your choice of parts and etc....

well i appreciate your help and i did look at that link in your sig. and im glad your not a dick like the other who just laughed at me. but i am more educated now since ive been readin stuff all day about the difference between a 347 and a 331. but see this is gonbna be in a street car also so i cant go all out with it. but i think the 331 with the trickflow top end kit will be plenty for the street.

but once again i do appreciate you not bein a dick like the one who posted before you and i appreciate the help.

PJC made a suggestion for you to use the bigger 347 over the 331. You in turn responded in a factual manner as if you knew what you were talking about. You were more than misinformed, it made me laugh. Get over it

Name calling doesn't get you very far on the internet.

He said he heard, he did not say it was fact, nor did he present it in that manner.

I personally would go with a 347 with a 1.175" piston and a 5.315" rod for a daily driver. If you are happy with a 331, then so be it. Go have fun!

Guys, my 5HOE bit the dust last weekend. I had always planned on upgrading the engine, not this soon though. Anyways whats a 331 shortblock gonna coast me from MHPERFORMANCE? What kinda HP can be expected with the TFlow top end kit? What are the Pros and Cons for this setup?

BTW! Not tring to jack the thread, just adding to the discussion.

got a CHP 331 shortblock ordered yesterday. should be here by friday. they cut a little better deal than DSS plus i was a little worried about the mixed reviews from DSS.

i have a question. will 24lb injectors be ok with the 331 w/ trickflow street topend kit or should i send em back and get 30lbers??

i feel like i might be cuttin it close with the 24's.

also what kind of HP/TQ will i be lookin at with this setup??

Go with the 30lb injectors, and personally the stroker will need more cam then the TFS1 to make power up to it's potential, custom in the best option. you may also consider milling the heads down to 58cc, with a 4cc flat top (I'm assuming that is what you will go with) it will gain you some needed compression and still run on pump gas no issues at all....

Here are the numbers with both chambers...

* 347 cid *

Bore Size: 4.030
Gasket Bore: 4.100
Piston Top Land Dia: 3.995
Stroke: 3.250
Connecting Rod Length 5.400
Compression Height: 1.175
Deck Height: 8.200
Ring to Top of Piston 0.250
Gasket Thickness: 0.040
Valve Notches Volume: 4.00
Dome Volume: 0.00
Volume Head: 61.00
-------------------------------------
:COMPRESSION RATIO: 10.112

well this is still pretty much a street car so i cant get real radical with the cam and compression and trust me it will have plenty of power. im goin from a stock 5.0 with a few bolt ons to a h/c/i 331. so ill be very pleased to say the least.

Let Rick build you a 347. It will be just as reliable for you, and more power

Yes going from a stock set-up you will be very pleased with the stroker, h/c/i set-up. The TFS 1 is just not enough cam for a stroker motor it was really designed around a stock motor with the TFS heads and an intake, it will be the limiting factor... The reason I suggest milling the heads is the compression is worth power in a NA set-up.

The TFS1 is very popular and works great in a 302, I use them a lot for a shelf cam, however I am a huge custom cam fan. The custom cam will give you more hp/tq through the curve and give you the drivabilty and emissions legality if you need it.
