I have recently bought a 2000 GT with 40,000 miles on it and I want to put a supercharger on it. I have narrowed it down to two choices the Paxton or the Vortech mongoose kit. I have studied the Kenne Bell 1.7 long and hard but, it's too much for me money wise. My goals are to get the car as close to 400rwhp with leasing my kid out for cheap labor on the black market! I need to know which would you recommend based on drivability, durability, and actual horsepower/torque output. This car would only see light strip/grudge racing as this will be my DD for at least the next two years. I may have the funds later to go bigger so i need something that is going to make good power later on do the line. Thanks for your help!

P.S.
This one of the better forums I have seen, others that are too concerned with and/or letting imports outdo them on the street and the track. I am more concerned with that Chevy or Dodge owner that is in the next lane looking at me like I am short!:nice:

Im going with the Novi 2000, as it will allow room to grow should you ever decide to upgrade your internals. remember, the stock rotating assembly on a GT is good up to about 400hp. they can handle a little more with a dead-on tune, but Im not going to take that chance. I'll be happy with 375 +/- 10hp @ 8psi for now. The Novi or Vortech will be more than what your stock SB can handle, so its up to you really. If you want something you can keep and make more power later, the Novi can support 600+hp.

Do you ever want more than 400hp? that is the question you proably need to ask yourself. spending the extra money now mean you will most likely never outgrow the superchanrger unless you want 600hp+ which is pretty crazy power if you are actually making it and not talking about it.

Now if money is tight and you know you will never forge the bottom end. I say save the money. There is really not much advatage to the etra money if you ultimate goal is 400hp.

Thanks for the input. Side bar i was looking at that exhaust you have on your car is it loud while cruising my current kit has a bad drone at 2k.

Yeah later on down the line but, i am trying to do something now. I am trying to get this car faster than my orange car it did a 12.7 with a 95 shot and a few bolt-ons. I just don't know much about superchargers. It is not the money it's the budget.

an s trim can make upwards of high 600rwhp if you overspin it. i think the only blower you are considering that would be the biggest limiter down the road would be the 1.7KB. but im sure it would be pretty bad ass with its power curve

i like Vortechs blowers, but between the S trim and the Novi 2000, the Novi 2000 kicks ass! when you start upping the boost, it will make more power than the S trim with the same mods..

My first choice for 400 rwhp would be a 1.7 KB. Second choice would be a Vortech s-trim or sq-trim. If I was going for 500 rwhp or more, first choice would be a 2.2 KB. Second choice would be a Novi 2000.

The KB's are really nice. They look like they are factory installed and you get rid of the crappy plastic intake. They make a boat load of torque and you don't have to worry about tossing belts all the time.

ok guys i have done the math 1,000,000 times today this is what i have come up with :A Vortech S-trim installed and dynotuned will run me $4550.00 plus the tax of about 5%, the Kenne Bell is $6,600 install and dyno tuned (300.00 for the trip there and back) and the Paxton would be $4800 with the like. The bolt ons for the top end motor for the centi blowers would be @ $700.00 (TB, Plenum, and Powerpipe) which I would do even if I was not going the S/C route but I am factoring it in since I currently don't have these items on the car. This would put my total between 5300-5600 exculded the tax. The Kenne Bell would put me at a little over $7,000 with the C.A.I and TB. I am trying only to use my quarter bonus to pull this off or I have some explaining to do (Too many toys already!) the only other options is the KB w/o the intercooler 3799.00 has anyone ever heard of anyone using this setup?

What about the KB without the intercooler fitz will it work? Have you ever seen that? Listed for 3799.00 plus 150.00 shipping

You can do that. You just have to hold down the rwhp and tune for it. I don't know where that would put you power wise. You could always add the intercooler later. The other option would be to wait a little longer and save a little more for the intercooled version or keep your eyes open for a used 1.7 KB. Tim just sold a complete used kit yesterday for 4,700.

I saw that one it hurt my heat to see it go how often does he have stuff like that coming in. I figure it should be pretty normal since you have everyone switching to the 2.2 with your numbers.

My numbers are pretty average for MPH. Lots of people seem to be swapping from Vortechs and Paxtons to KB's. I'm sure there will be an occasional 1.7 KB swap to a 2.2 KB, however, it seems like the 1.7's are in big demand. I think a lot of people want to put a 1.7 on a stock engine and "call it a day."

If 400rwhp is your goal with limited funds, go with the S-trim or Novi, forget about the plenum, TB and power pipe. You'll either get there or be close enough without spending the extra $$$. You could always do them at a later date when funds allow.

Jim, was the 10.39 with the old setup or the new one?

So does that mean that your car is done Jim?? :D
