Gonna replace the GT tails with the 85/86 lenses... just had a couple questions that haven't really been addressed by the other threads on how to do this..

First, there are metal clips already in the taillights. Can I reuse these or should I look into buying a few new ones?

What's this butyl stuff? Is it like double sided tape? I've never seen it before.

Lastly, after I get everything sealed, people have been recommending that you use duct tape to seal everything... well, won't that leave a sticky residue when you remove it? Should you have the taillight assembly removed to do this portion of it or leave it on the car? If you leave it on, how do you duct tape it together then? I wouldn't imagine you'd want to get the duct tape on the paint.

Easy

I'm not aware of any metal clips on these taillights. I believe they're fastened by studs that are to be inserted through holes in the body and snugged down with nuts.

The butyl material is the sealer that seals the lens to the light housing (frame). It is like a rubber cualking. No duct tape is necessary. I''d say stay away from it.
:nice:
