Good Deal? Edelbrock Heads

1. I have a chance to pick up a set of edelbrock performer heads. the part number on the heads is 60379. with the 2.02/1.60 valves. The heads have a valve job and bowl work and new spring locks they have less than 2000 miles on them they have no issues. i can pick them up for 600.00. Good deal?

2. Will my cobra intake manifold work with well with these heads?

3. What cam do you suggest with this combo?

ya- good deal. Didn't you just replace your head gaskets? You are a glotton for punishment.

...oops. Sorry. 60739 is the Performer RPM head. Valve clearance might be an issue with a big cam. Your Cobra intake will work ok. I think the edelbrock RPM intake is the best

no i didnt just change my head gaskets. i was worried about valve clearance. i wanted to port the cobra lower and use a good size cam. any suggestions? and does anyone know if these heads will clear?

As far as I know,you cannot use the 2.02's without fly cutting the pistions.Also they might drop your compression a bit with the 60cc chambers,but thats a good price,I paid $850 for my 1.90's with my "industry" discount.

well i do not want to have to do that type of work. i may pass up on these heads if this is true. if anyone knows for sure that would be great!

You can use teh 2.02's without touching the pistons. I run teh edlebrock 2.02's performers on mine with stock bottom end. Runs great. I paid over $1000 for mine.

I know for sure you will have clearance issues with a long duration cam and or anything over .500 lift. You can go to edelbrocks website and read it for yourself. Back in the day I had a paxton sn93 supercharged LX with those very heads and a cobra intake. I ran the B cam with 1.6's-

i am gonna agree and say that you CANT/SHOULDNT run those 2.02 valve heads on stock pistons. From what i know, the only 2.02 head is a TFS that i am aware of.

The 2.02 intake valves might clear when normal driving but the first time you miss a shift and the motor free revs you will regreat running the heads, the lift of the cam doesnt not matter when P/V clearance is an issue. When the cam is at peak lift the piston is at the bottom of the cylinder. The duration and LSA are what matters, just my 2.

from Edelbrocks site:
"1.90" intake valves are for use with stock pistons
High-flow 2.02" intake valves are for use with pistons notched for valve clearance "

I have the 1.90's and their cam with .520 lift and i bent a FEW valves over time and mine had "small" reliefs cut into the pistons too.

Does this sound like someone who knows what they are saying?? I've ran the 2.02's on 3 mustangs WITH STOCK pistons with no problems. You guys are crazy!! Want a real mechanic? Call up SUMMIT RACING and they'll give you the same answer I did!!

Killer,

It's only with a cam with a lot of lift, duration, or both. I've used them before too. A mild cam is ok- it's after.500 lift that things get a little sketchy. Those heads even work good with a stock cam.

i will run stage 1 TFS
