Good Deal on Heads??

Here's the story, I met this guy who is selling some stock 2000 Saleen heads, but they have been ported and polished by a big performance shop. They have upgraded valve springs and they supposedly have 500 miles on them. The guy on the saleen put a turbo on it, and threw a rod or something and just upgraged the heads. I talked the guy down to 500 bucks for the heads?? Is it a good deal?? I plan on porting my heads anyways, I think it's a good deal, do you guysy??

well if the port job is good and the heads are in good shape it is a good deal.

If the cylinder he threw the rod in has any damge to the combustion chamber it may not be such a good deal.

my .02 is if you don't know heads very well have the guy bring them to a machine shop and if there is not damage buy them as a port job cost much more than $500 plus if it has nice springs those are not free either.

also find out where they were ported and post that in as not all head porting shops are equal.

Like I said take them to a machine shop that does head work. have them looked over, checked for cracks and damage.

yeah If you can find a machine shop that has a flowbench and get number off them that would be sweet. don't think that would be free though.

IF you find out what shop they were done at someone may be able to tell you if it is decent or not. Not all port jobs are equal. for $500 though if they flowed 200cfm it would be a great upgrade.

most port jobs by a good house are $900 or so just for the porting.
