Good deed done...

Well, I am at lunch today with my co-workers and Sol calls - the guy that I helped with the flat tire. He says that he has the wheels and that we can meet on Wednesday so he can give them to me. What a guy. What do you all think I should do to show my appreciation? I have an extra brand new 130-amp alternator that I can give him. Or should I give him something else, perhaps for him and the family?

BTW, those that replied about tires for the pony wheels please let me know how much you paid for the tires so I can start putting money to the side.

im not sure i would part with the alternator, unless you know he really needs one. being this time of year, i might get a gift basket (like a cheese and sausage basket, or something along those lines). something his family can use and enjoy during the holidays - i think that is may be a warmer gesture (like i said, unless he is a die-hard and would love a nice 3G. Well since the alternator is a spare it would not be a problem on my side. Hell you I think he is a die-hard because he just got the car a short time ago - you know how that goes don't you? He said that he recently got a brand new alternator but I really doubt he sprung for the 130a, especially because of the wiring changes that are required to do the swap.

I would go with the gift basket but that is what he got for me and the family when I went to pick up the spare I loaned him.

Hmmm, my birthday. It goes a little like this. My wife made dinner reservations for the family to go eat at 5pm and a nice Italian Restaurant that I appreciate. I typically get off work at 3pm and get home by 315pm. Yesterday was a totally different story. I leave the premises and I am immediately confronted with very heavy traffic on that freeway. As usual when this happens I take back roads to get to the other freeway going in that direction. Turns out the cause of the traffic was a 3-car accident including a fatality. That means that the freeway is closed for the investigation. Since the other freeway leads to the freeway where the accident occurred that means everyone either needs to wait for the freeway to re-open or try and find an alternate route. Let me tell you, during rush hour traffic things are bad enough when all the routes are open, never mind the closure of the only two freeways traveling in my direction. Anyway, it took me about 2 hours to travel about 2-2.5 miles then I decided to stop for a few refreshing beverages. I called the wife immediately after I realized the heinous traffic condition and told her to just take the kids to dinner and enjoy themselves because there was no way I would be there for dinner. She was hesitant but eventually agreed. So, after my first two tall ones my co-worker called saying that he needed to get out of traffic and asked if I could meet him at a bar that was close to where he was. I agreed since I had to travel against traffic only about 1/2 mile. After meeting him we threw back a couple more green bottles then decided to make our trip home - we live in the same direction.

Needless to say by the time I got home it was after 7pm and the family had already returned from dinner. My lovely wife brought me one of my favorite dishes. I also noticed that she got me another gift - saying it was from the boys. A few weeks back she bought me a Craftsman 6hp 33-gallon upright air compressor with many accessories and she immediately let me enjoy it. So when I get home I am greeted by her smiling face and this large box that was leaning against the living room wall. After closer inspection I realized it was a collapsible creeper w/ adjustable headrest, rolling (height adjustable) stool with tool storage and a spinning bar stool. All these items came in the same box so they all match. I guess it paid to lie under my car for about 2 hours the day before on nothing but a towel while I fixed the oil leak I created from installing the mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Sorry for the long story. If I were to talk to any of you on the phone you would feel the passion behind yesterdays experience. To say the least, it was H*ll!

I guess the main thing about this long traffic experience; I found out that the cooling system is top notch because the temp stayed really low for the most part. The highest temp I read was about 198* but that was in about 85* weather, stop and go, max a/c and in direct sunlight. Not too bad. Oh, did I mention that the noise I was experiencing from the driver side bank has not been heard since my investigation on Sunday?
