Good head for my 306/nitrous combo

DISCLAIMER: I know this is a somewhat touchy subject around here, I am in no way trying to start a pissing match over this, just want to know what would work best for me.

I also know alot of you say it's all in the combo, well I need to know what would be best for my combo.

Anyways, I'm planning a 306 setup that will be used occasionally with nitrous. This car is going to be a daily driver for awhile, then down the road become a weekend car. Also since I'm in Florida, emissions is not an issue. Also I will do some 'recreational" drag racing and Auto-X...but no formal form of competition.

Blue Oval Corral here in Clearwater is going to be buildup of the engine for me, and they suggested a Trick Flow Track Heat intake and a custom cam from Ronnie Crawford. We got talking about heads and Chad, the manager, suggested some Twisted Wedge heads, and I had mentioned I liked what I had heard about the AFR 185 heads.

Chad thinks both the AFR 185 and Twisted Wedges would work well...but I was wondering what you guys here thought. Obviously I have to pick one and want to get it right the first time.

So given what I have told you, what do you think would work best for me? Keep in mind that I will not be increasing the displacement of the engine or anything, so that negates the ability to grow with the Twisted Wedges.

i am no way saying it doesn't matter, but nitrous does not require a better flowing head to produce the power of the shot you are giving it. nitrous differs from forced induction in that you are not increasing the volume of air into the cyl you are increasing the percentage of O2 into the cyl. for instance a 306 with E7 heads will still make 100hp extra on a 100 shot. a 306 with better heads will still make 100hp on a 100 shot. pick a head based on your n/a goals then add nitrous.

Good post Bimmer, Chad had mentioned this when we discussed my engine but we really didn't go into details. Thanks for elaborating, I have a better understanding of it now :nice:

thats what this board is for, i really think a 306 with 185's and a good intake is a great setup and should provide a big grin for a while. good luck and i hope it turns out great!

Thanks buddy, I'll make sure to shoot some videos of the car at the track once it is all done.

Well Chad said I should be pushing 310 rwhp, but I have a feeling he may have been making a conserative prediction there.

Either way, the beauty of the custom cam and the ability to tune with the Tweecer won't be the peak HP so much, but the overall powerband :banana:
 
nice when i start building im goin to get a custom cam too cause i been told be sooo many people here they make a huge difference.
and my buddy that joined the marines with me who i been helping build his fox bodys and my car with forever sadi i should also go witha custom cam.

also the tuner is it worth it or should i just get a chip burnt but i figure witha tuner i can change it when ever
what kind of tuners are there and where do i get them? turner very new to me. old car carb lol like 2 wires lol

I think a custom cam is definetly the way to go :nice:

If your gonna go with trickflow heads, get the twisted wedge and not the track heats. You WILL be changing valve springs regardless since your going custom cam, so save your money.

An rpm intake would probably work well. If you wanna make better power and maybe spin it a little higher, i'd consider an rpm II or a holley.

Either head will be fine for your combo. I think the afr 185's will make more power. If I was starting from scratch, i'd choose a ported TW head because i'm partial to TFS products :D

Look sorry to make this come up just because its a 100 shot does not mean it produces 100 hp to the wheels or even the flywheel. Every motor is different some car react to N2O differently. 5.0 mag. a while back did N2O on a Fox with 125K on the odo. Well it prioduced somewhere around 118ish if i remember correctly. As for 94-95's I have witnessed a stock 94 produce 92 hp to the wheels on a 75 shot. The heads you used will make a difference im not saying a big one but it will matter.
As for the dude doing the 306 on nitrous. Way to go! Sounds like a good combo to me. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it. Post pics. when its done.
