Good morning Left laners

I find that the world moves way to slow for the average Mustang owner. Most state's laws
say something like "Slower traffic keep right" Nowhere in that phrase does it say, "except" . If your going 80 MPH and someone pulls up behind you, Guess what? You are slower traffic, move to the right. For those self authorized speed controllers for traffic, Hay, It's not your job, That's what we have a Police department for. It's none of your business that I am speeding, It's the police officer's business. If you feel compelled to enforce the law, then, "Slower traffic keep right" and go turn yourself in to an officer.

Ahhhh that felt good.
The reason I started a new thread was to tell what my 2009 stock GT ran.
My daughter took my car to a "test and tune" and ran it last week, She ran a 13.75 @ 100 mph. Every thing on the car is just like it came from the show room.
I think that is very good from a stock Auto Mustang.
Stock tires and Traction control on.
I'm sure a Stick mustang would do a little better.

Believe it or not a stick car runs the same 13.7 in the quarter stock just like your automatic. Add a CAI with a good tune and she'll be able to run 13.4. Why didn't you run the car?

Huh! I figured the stick for at least a 1/10 over the Auto.
My daughter and her husband were going to the track and I just told her to take my car. Her last run was after midnight and I'm old.

As a citizen, it actually IS my duty (and everyone elses) to keep other drivers in check. If I let someone speed off doing 120 and they wreck, that's on me because I could have prevented it. If they kill someone, I'll have to live with that too. Will I go out of my way to stop a speeder? No. But I'm not pulling over so they can go further over the speed limit.

I pull over and let them go by to give me a "blocker", would rather have the police already busy with another customer when I get there. But usually when they get in front they decide they are not in such a hurry anymore.

How is this any different from somebody going the speed limit and not pulling over? You are putting your personal opinion of the speed everybody should drive over the opinion of others.

Left lane is a "Passing" lane......if you aren't "Passing" then you have no business being in it!!!

This means you pass on the left...and after you're done passing you move to the right.

I was doing 100mph on the Mass. Pike (I90) and was pulled over by a State Trooper...Not for speeding but for being in the left lane and not passing.

Now im from RI where things are backwards. Folks around here love riding the left lane regardless of speed. Then you have people passing on the right. So you have situations where someones doing 60 in the left lanes and you have guys passing them at 80+ next to on ramps and break down lanes on the right side of the highway.

But i Digress...the left lane is for passing ONLY!!

If you let someone speed off doing 120 and they wreck, or even worse kill someone else, that's on them (for being a complete idiot), not you. All you are doing is making a bad situation potentially worse. The idiot coming up behind you at 120 is just going to get frustrated, and will be more likely try to some dangerous maneuver like passing you on the right and then going even faster. You could easily cause the kind of accident you say you are trying to prevent.

I rarely go more than 10-15 mph over the speed limit, but if someone wants to speed past me in the left lane I will pull over (usually muttering something under my breath). You should do the same. It is not your responsibility to stop speeders, unless you have a badge and a car with a siren and flashing lights on top.

You didn't respond to my point, though. How do you know that, by not letting the speeder pass, you are not going to cause the very accident that you are trying to prevent? I would think you are making an accident more likely.

I don't know that. It would, however, be a lower speed accident, if it were to happen. But we can say the same for the fire. You're not a trained fireman, so how do you know that you'd actually help the person? Maybe you'd pull them through some fire and hurt them more. It's something you can never know, but odds are you're going to do more good than harm.

As much as I'm not in support of ass hats that choose to speed excessively, I have to agree with this statement.

I'd rather see someone using the passing lane for its intended purpose, than to see some idiot driving in it while riding side by side with the traffic in the travel lane, holding everyone else up behind him/her.

Sometimes it’s not the speeders who cause these accidents, but the “pokers” who refuse to pay attention to their surroundings and use the proper travel lane forcing everyone else to take chances getting past them, that do.

In the case of the fire, I am assuming that if I don't try to help the person he or she would certainly die so the risk/benefit analysis is pretty clear. Oh9 - I am also assuming that there are no fire personnel there and they would not arrive in time to save this person. (That's the beauty of hypothetical situations, I can assume whatever I want )

In the case of the speeder, I really don't know what is going to happen. I think it is more likely that the speeder would whip around me on the right, pass me, zip back into the left lane, and then drive even crazier, than realize the error of his (or her) ways and slow down. I think the safer thing to do overall, for everyone on the road, is to just move over and let them pass.

I agree we should all watch out for each other.

The few state regulations that I have looked up in regards to passing on the left, also have the caveat that it is illegal to block traffic in the left lane, with a reasonably clear definition of what is passing and what isn't.

If you're sitting at a left turn yield on green do you sit and block traffic until you get an arrow. I mean what if the person behind you is in a hurry and tries to cut in front of somebody and gets hit You wouldn't be able to sleep for months. Or better yet driving is so dangerous we should all just take it upon ourselves to slash all of our neighbors' tires so they don't put other people in risk by driving to work.

You rarely see accidents involving two cars when somebody is speeding around town. Wrecks involving two people happen when somebody is driving the speed limit and stops paying attention to the road. If I were theoretically speeding, I have noticed that I would always be much more attentive. Not just looking for cops but also looking out for things that could potentially go wrong.

In my opinion, the faster I go the sooner I get out of the way of the other idiots on the road, doing their makeup, talking on the phone, eating etc.
