I got a 79 stang with a non roller 302 and I was wondering what came do you guys recommend that is nearly the same as the E303 because I want my car to have a nice lope. Also I got a set of 1.7 roller rockers for free and I want to use them with the cam. With those rockers and that cam, will I need better valve springs or will my stockers be fine? Also the engine only hav 40k miles on it.
Thanks in advice
Jhery

I have an E cam and 1.7s on GT40P heads, and it sounds great, nice and lopey. The Trickflow cam is very similar to the E. You should definitely upgrade your springs, stock springs are junk and won't support the lift an E cam with 1.7s makes. Get the FRPP cobra springs, they go up to .560" lift I believe.

Can you install the new springs while the heads are still in the car?

You can install springs on the car but you will need regulated air to put in each cylinder so that valve wont fall down. The spring compressor for doing them on the car is about $12. BTW the trick flow cams are for roller motors. Just call comp cams and they will give you a part #'s of the springs and cam you want then call Summit Racing.

Yeah, it's a pain working on heads while they're on the car. I forgot you don't have a roller motor. You can either convert, or get the proper cam for your setup. Good luck.

take some skinny rope and shove a long strand of it into the spark plug until the combustion chamber fills. Remove spring, valve shouldn't fall it now. Replace spring, remove rope.
