So there I was....

Sitting at a light, in front of a gas station, where all the ricers hang out. I saw em lookin at me, so of course on green, I let them hear my exhuast. I didn't launch or anything, but I stayed in first up to about 40 mph, so it was pretty loud. About two lights later, I get pulled over by a cop on a bike. He said, "I pulled you over for your exhaust". I was about ready to argue, and make him prove that its too loud, but he asked if i was military, and so far, I've gotten out of about 3 tickets because a lot of the cops are ex Air Force around here. No dice though this time. He tells me that ANY sort of "modified exhaust" is illegal within city limits

So here's the deal...

Do I pay the 60 bucks

.... or....

take him to court and hope he doesn't show up?

I would just pay it, since it isn't a moving violation or anything it won't count against you, just pay it, or call a lawyer for a free consultation

you got off ez, pay the $60
my bro got manhandled by a cop for exhuast in his Supra, then MADE him pop the hood and worte a ticket for illegal intake and almost wrote down he had no cats. He had to pay the fine bring it to a ref and show it was back to stock but he had an airbag sensor light warning so they wouldnt test his car so he had to get that fixed then re test it and pay the ticket. Like $450 total

I got puled over for a seat belt, she come out and ask if at was any reason that I was not wearing a seat belt,I told her that I just put my new seats in and my brackets are not complete jet,and I know that I should not drive the car like that, any way she give me a ticket for seat belt and she got back in her car,I start my car up and tuck of,about 1/8 mile later she run after me and pool me over again and she give me another ticket she said (YOU NEED TO FIX YOUR MUFFLER)F***** bitch.................................

Just pay the $60 that is a pretty low fine. I would also suggest making your exhaust quieter.

Yes, we've learned on this site that modifying your exhaust from how it came from the factory can get you a ticket. This is how Harley's get away with the 100db exhausts.

The fact that I haven't heard of any ricers getting pulled over for the fart can bumblebee exhausts is a bit hypocritical. When you have a huge ass coffee can hanging out your back bumper, the factory exhaust has obviously been modified.

you guys (somee)are reading his thread wrong. He got pulled over for riding out 1st gear basically. Anyone in a mustang with modified exhaust rolling out 1st gear to what (red line) will get looks.. and maybe the one you dont want.. police.

I bet if he wouldve shifted @ a normal range than he would be fine. So, no dont change your exhaust. Just change your driving habits ;]

Lets say he pays the $60 dollars for the ticket and gets pulled over again in the future. Will there be a record of that and a higher fine yet?

This is the exact reason why we are being pulled over for exhaust and safety inspections now. In my area the police didn't pull over american cars unless they were total POS's until the mid 90's and all these kids in Imports and obnoxious exhausts became popular. Local towns had to create new noise restriction laws because these idiots are driving around at 3am and people are pissed so we are getting the trickle down effect from the Ricers and their Fart Cans...

now the guy who posted this was acting stupid and earned his ticket and could have been issued a careless/reckless driving or street racing ticket if the cop wanted to be a dick.

Unless you are running around with an off-road pipe and cherry bombs in my area, the cops usually leave Mustangs alone with their exhaust. Of course, this doesn't mean if you do something stupid on the street they won't use it as an excuse. Also, if you are driving something like a rusted out 80's monte carlo with smoke coming from the exhaust, well you might get pulled over then too.

Where i live, there are ricers everywhere. I see fart cans on mini-vans all the time. Anytime someone buys a Camry, first mod is a fart can even if there is nothing else done to it. '

As a result, they get pulled over all the time and i get thumbs up from cops

Damz, where do you guys live??? Possibly things are a little 'slow' here in the south but I have never ever ever heard about a cop being able to write a ticket to someone for modifying the exhaust from factory default configuration. That is nuts.

You don't have to pay the court cost if the cop doesn't show. Swap the exhaust for some legal stuff, then take it to court!

I hate Nazi's.

time

I can't believe some of you guys.

Just pay the $60 and move on.

You have an offroad H and Magnapacks ... you rode out 1st in town, got noticed and got a ticket because of it.

You are lucky they didn't do a visual and give you a ticket for no cats. Not to mention you could have gotten a ticket for speeding or display of power or whatever else they wanted to think up.

I love a good mean sounding exhaust as much as the next guy, that's some hella-loud exhaust you have too. Save the 1st gear windouts for the highway, country roads or the track, not in town. That kind of crap bugs the hell out of me when I am relaxing at home with my wife and some lamer with loud exhaust winds out his gears on one of the streets by my house.

I'm def going to pay the 60 bucks, I was just angry last night, and i was venting i guess.

I hear ya about the harleys. I was walkin into Walmart today, and a Harley pulled away, and cracked the throttle open, right infront of the doors, with hordes of people everywhere. I almost went deaf. I guess they're not "modified" though, since they came like that. Oh well. I learned my $60 lesson, and now I'll be more careful.

Man I can't believe you guys...

Take it to court!! What do you have to lose? You don't have to go in with a bad attitude and turn it into some big deal, but at least go explain the situation and see if they'll cut you a break. I've gone to court for every single violation I've ever gotten (even the ones where I was obviously in the wrong), and over 50% of the time they've at least reduced the fines for me. Cops and judges are people too - and chances are a lot of them like fast/loud cars. Taking an hour out of your day to save yourself some cash is definitely worth it IMO.
