so last night i was heading into town ran into my friend on rt50. we were riding by each other slow in front of foodlion because he was talking to me out of his window telling me to go to the gas station, i said ok. We accelerated off quickly. and cops flew out of foodlion parking lot. we were both pulled over and givin a Wreckless driving/Racing on a highway ticket. first off we were not racing, if maybe even going 10 over the speed limit. There was no Radar clocking. cops said we were racing because we were going faster than other traffic around us? anybody ever have this happen. what do you guys think will happen, We both have lawyers and we are going to court

I'm sure the cops had a reason of some sort, even if they did have it all wrong. I had a similar situation happen to me - a buddy was following me, but the moron was going almost 30mph over the limit to catch up going up a hill after a light, and we got pulled over for racing.

If you both have lawyers and there was no way to prove what speed you both were going (outside of the guesstimate cops can do), I'm sure you both will get off but its going to cost you.

Since it is a misdemeanor get a lawyer so that you don't spend time in jail. Best case scenario the cop won't show and you'll just have to pay the lawyer, worst case you'll have to pay additional fines. If you have a good lawyer he should be able to get the charges reduced down to a civil infraction. In the end it is the cops word versus your and there's always holds more weight. If he shows you will have to pay the court for something regardless of lack of proof.

my buddy has a 454 chevy truck thats LOUD.. and my car is damn loud too.. we have gotten pulled over twice for racing because it sounds like it... actually it was exibition of acceleration and racing.. we got off scott free with lawyers...

owned :rlaugh:

Anyways, y'all were going slow talking... then you took off... to an observer what could that have possibly looked like? All that was missing was honking three times.

Get a lawyer, one that is NOT named "owned" :owned:

i got a racing ticket about 6 months ago and i was actually racing but the cop didn't show up on 2 different occasions and i got off. only money i had to pay was for the lawyer which was 300

yeah, get assistance in this one.

had you been in two minivans at the same speed doing the same thing while talking on the phone and driving even stupider, the officers wouldnt have looked twice. but of course, any nice car accelerating nowadays is instantly tagged as streetracing. there could be nobody else around and you take off from a light at a slightly-above-gradual-pace and you get popped for exhibition of speed / contest of acceleration.

how is there any proof that we were racing though... there was no flagger. no light no beeps on anything we both have loud cars and accelertaed back up to speed because we were going about 20 when he was talking to me

Cops are more concerned with pulling over speeders than stopping drug dealers and all that ****, and it pisses me off.

My friends got pulled over - one in a FORD FOCUS, the other in a DODGE NEON - BOTH BONE STOCK - I was in my Jeep at the time. We were going down a main road, they were talking to one another, and my friend in the Focus hit the gas a little. On a 35 MPH road, they MAYBE got up to 43 MPH - then of course, some guy we didn't know in a VW Jetta decided to race them and took off like a bat out of hell. All 3 cars got nailed by a cop that was about 1/4 mile behind us, who had no clear sight of my friends cars. Long story short, we counted 8 police cars from surrounding cities going to where my friends and the VW Jetta person were. My friends got off w/ nothing at all (comeon it's a focus vs a neon, wtf) and I duno what happened to the Jetta.

If you got a real lawyer I promise you'd get off pretty much all those charges, if it's exactly how you said it was. Because as far as law goes that's crap on the cop's part.

I got off scot free in a horribly strict court system with far worse circumstances than you.
