Got My Exporer Engine

Hey guys,

I pulled the trigger and purchased a 5.0 explorer motor. I live in OH and bought it from a junk yard in MI off of car-part.com.
It supposedly has 55,000 miles on it and it is from a 2000 explorer. Since i live in OH i did not get to see if before it shipped. When i got it last week the block and heads have a decent amount of rust on them. I guess since it is from MI it is understandable but is this something i should be concerned about?

I have a 30 day warranty on the engine so if this rust is an issue i will just sent it back. They said they ran it before they pulled it and "it sounded perfect".
Also, can i do a compression test with the motor out of the car and if so can someone explain how?

I am planning taking it apart and chaning out/coverting the neccessary stuff. I am following a members blog on this exact topic at nerddawg.com. but before i start taking it apart and putting new parts on it i want to make sure it is decent.

Thanks for all the help,

If you are planning on a full rebuild and will be taking the entire thing apart, you can always have the parts hot tanked and it will remove the rust. If its not coming apart, you can tape up all the open parts of the motor, very well, and hit it with a wire brush. Wipe it down and paint it with a can of engine paint. Most of that stuff advertises that it will stop rust.
