Hey guys, Last week I got my new convertible top put on finally. It was a fairly unpleasant experience and I would not deal with this place again. First I was told to have it to them by 8 am two Thursdays ago saying that it would be done either the end of that day or by midday Friday. 3 pm on Friday rolls around and finally I call them and they say "oh, we got sent the wrong top and it wont be done until Monday or Tuesday. Great.

So Tuesday afternoon I get a call saying it is done. I go to get it at 8 am Thursday morning and the top looks good, but the other problem (driver window goes up TOO far causing it to hang up) I had them fix had not been fixed at all. They ask me to wait and say it will be done in 30 minutes. 2 HOURS LATER they say oh sorry, the stops had fallen off and the bonding adhesive we are using needs all day to dry so we will call you later today when it is done. I tell them well what are you going to do about this price wise??? I just lost half a day of work when you told me the car was DONE. He says, well my I lost money too having my guys work on it. At this point I am getting angry and say, look YOU are the professionals and it took my 5 seconds to realize you had done NOTHING to fix this window. I lost half a day of work because YOU told me it was done when it wasn't. So finally the old D BAG says he will take off the 70 they were charging me to fix the window. Also saying, 90% of the times stops are reglued they do not stay on and the whole window must be replaced. Well guess what, the crap didn't work later that night. It isn't a big deal it just means everytime I put my window up I have to back it off a half inch or so.

Anyways, there are two things they are eating at me regarding the top not being right and I need to ask guys with verts to tell me if this is right or not and need others to chime in in general.

Problem 1 I asked them about and they said it was normal and water "cant" go in there. Maybe I am wrong but it seems off, idk.

It is regarding the trim down by the quarter window. Is the hole down there normal and stock or is there something missing here??

Second question is regarding the ever so slight gap up near where it meets the windshield. I just do not know if this is something I need to be bringing it back over or what.

Thanks for any and all input.

hmmmm.

when my top is up, there are openings at the bottom corners of the rear windows. i think that is normal, and there is a channel inside the car where any water that comes in there is routed such that it drains outside the car and does not collect in the inside.

but i also have a situation where it can drip outside of that channel, and in that case, water can collect under the back seats and on the floorboard behind the front seats and get the carpeting wet. if you want more info about that, i can see if i can dig up what i posted about it earlier.

as to the opening in the weatherstripping in the front, i'd have to look at mine to see if it is the same or not. something like that would be most noticeable when taking it through a car wash. mine has always let water in at those kinds of spots, but i don't notice a problem when it rains.

re the window hanging up, my passenger side had a problem similar to that when i bought it, and it is still like that. while i have learned how to live with it, it is a pain because if the top is up and i have a passenger, i need to wait until the passenger is out of the car to put the window up all the way. either that, or i need to come around and do my little "trick" to close the door without the window catching on the top. either way, it's a pain and i wish it wasn't like that.

i have always assumed that the top was not installed correctly, not that the window goes up too much.

in this pic of the area you are talking about from the inside, any water is supposed to stay on the yellow side, which is designed to route it back to the outside.

in my case, there is a drip that comes down on the green side. that water collects under the back seat, and if there is enough, it spills over and collects in the floorboard behind the front seat.

i rigged up a ghetto thing with a cut up top from a plastic butter container to get the drip to go to the correct side, but it is not permanent and i have to remember to take it out when i put the top down and put it back when i put it back up.

Thank you for the in depth response! The thing with the front part I am questioning is that it is not like that on the rivers side. I dont know if the trim is just a little moved to make that gap or if the top is literally not pulled far enough up.

As for the window, it is the window that causes the problem because the front part of the window that is on an angle should be flush with the black triangle section when it is all the way up. My passenger side is that way and my drivers side is not. I didnt notice it before because my drivers door needed new door pins so it sagged enough to not be an issue.

glad i can help.

re the front part, mine does not have the opening there. i doubt it would be a problem in the rain, but it might whistle a little on the highway with the top up ... if the sound from the exhaust lets you hear that is!

re the window hitting, maybe i'm not following you ... sorry. i'll take a pic of mine the way it hits, bit it is probably not the same as yours.

Front gap: My top (factory, still in great shape) doesn't have that; I'd see if you can adjust it out... Is it possible to draw it tighter by adjusting the hook on the lockdown (behind the visor)? I'm guessing not, but that would be the first place I'd explore.

Quarter-window gap: I'm a little dense, but I can't figure out where you're talking about--the pics are in so close that I can't find a point of reference to find the same location on my car, so I can't offer much input.

Where the top meets the back bottom corner of the quarter window.
