Hey everyone,

Got some pics of the 65 I've been working on for the last year and a half. I've replaced the engine and tranny, made some suspension mods and worked on the interior. The next step will be getting the exterior the way I want. This whole project has been a learning experience. A lot of fun and a little frustration Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way.

Let me know what you think. Constructive criticism welcome

You'll have to either upload them or have them hosted on a web. You can't have your home computer host them....just don't work that way.

Thats a real clean looking stang, but why is the front valance black?

hey no problem man car's coming along nicely, reminds me of mine a bit mostly the color and such. has a lot of things i want to do to mine, but money and time are preventing at the moment yours is lookin good tho

nice looking ride, valance adds a lot to it!

not much to say, car looks great

i have been working on mine for 10 years and still don't have those tri bar lights lights like i want.

1) bigger tires or lower the car
2) boot over the shifter

I notice you have no export brace under the hood.

I am not sure what they do but I haven't seen a stang without one before.
Can someone tell me the function of it, and if it is or is not required?

I just ordered a chrome one and I had a vision of unhooking the old one and the entire front end just dropping or something since I am not sure about its function.

The car looks great IMO. the black grill molding is different, but nice Id also add a chrome export brace to finish it off.

Despite some peoples troubles installing an export brace, its simple and your car will not fall apart. Just unbolt the old crap braces, line up the new one and bolt it down. my car had no problems lining up, but some recommend jacking up the front of the car and supporting it on the crossmember or frame rails depending on which way your off. You dont even need to unbolt the shocks, just unbolt the whole mount and let the shock push it up, then you can compress it back down with your hand while you bolt down the export brace

Edit: Oh yeah, the export brace helps keep the shock towers from flexing while turning or under load to keep the car more rigid. this helps handling. i noticed a difference switching from stock to an export brace. the export brace is far more rigid and 1 solid piece.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Floor pans and exterior paint are definetly next on the list. The paint is vveeeerrryyy tired and I personally don't care for red a whole lot. Not to mention every classic mustang I see in my area is red. The valance is new and un painted. I dunno though, I always thought it looked kinda cool

The interior is actually stock 65. It was all palamino, including all of the dash. I didn't really like the color but it was in good shape and didn't need replaced so I used vinyl paint. The paint works well (so far) and I think it made it look a little better.

I think the car could definetly be lowered a little and I'm sure I'll be on here asking how to do it soon! I plan on building a custom console for a little storage, some cup holders and to relocate my CD player to a more convieninet reach...I always thought mounting it perpendicular to the ground would be cool. I've got a new shifter on order with stops so the gaping hole in the tunnel (love the fumes!!) and no boot is just for the meantime

I do have an export brace, but I'm having trouble with a valve cover leak so I know the covers are coming off again. No room with the export brace on there to lift the covers off. :damnit:

Thanks again for the compliments. It's nice to hear from people who know exactly how much work it is to keep these old ponies on the road!

its hard to tell in the pic, but it doesnt look like u have tall valve covers. i had no problems getting mine off and on with the export brace in place. just in case you were wondering.

The car is looking good! I was thinking about getting a front valence and a new grill. Where did you get yours? I like them a lot.

Looks like you have done alot of quality work to your car! Get out and enjoy it for the summer. Then take care of the details. I have a 65 too. I have a build date of December 64. My dash/instrument panel is different though. I particularly like the side view shot. What type are your wheels and what size are your tires?
