Maybe not so bad if he's a free-lance architect, but with larger firms, you are expected to perform (i.e. fast drawings and fewer returned redlines). But then again I only see it from the standpoint of being the engineer to tell the drafters and architects that the drawings are wrong.

A really good drafter can make alot of money too. Make it a point to pay attention to structural drawings and learn what you can. You can make yourself worth alot more than $5.
