Griffin radiator question

I just purchased a universal 31x19 radiator for my 89 Mustang and wanted to make sure this is the correct size. The inlet and outlets are suppose to be standard Ford. Will my stock hoses work. I know the out lower outlet is angled slightly upward.

You can force the top one on with some muscle but no, the bottom is not even close to working. Its at a different angle and different diameter. After many trips to the parts store I found one that works as if it is made for this application.

Do you happen to remember the part number and brand for the lower hose?

Crap man! I just ordered the same radiator as you. I allready have a brand new in box blue hose kit. Ya'll are saying my lower hose won't work?

I have blue silicone hoses also. I plan on installing it Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes and if I can make them work.

When I stepped up to a 3 core aluminum rad they said in the manual it had all the factory connections but the lower rad hose would not work. What we ended up using was a factory rad hose for a 69 Mustang.

Can you get this hose at somewhere like NAPA or Autozone? Or do you have to order it from a place that carries vintage Mustang Parts like Mustangs Unlimited? Do you know what size motor in the 69 it was for. I figure they will ask me that if I go get one.

I have the griffen "nascar" series rad. It's the one with 1" tubing and no petcock. I was able to use my upper and lower hoses with no problem. The hoses are a bitch to get on, use some silicone spray or something.

Griffen makes a few different kinds of rads, so you may not have the same one as me.

Found it!! Part # is E70664. Got it at Kragen. Like I said, it is a perfect fit. I think you have to cut it, but I dont remember. Its easy to figgure out though.

I checked and mine is the NASCAR style also. It has a 1.5 inch inlet and a 1.75 inch outlet. Griffin part #1-26272-X

I have griffen p/n 1-26182-x, which is 22" X 19". this was a direct fit, and I was able to use the stock hoses. from what I see, your rad is about 9" wider, so the stock hose probably won't reach.

make sure rydeon has the same rad as you and get the same hose as he's using. He posted the p/n a couple threads ago.

By the way, you may to have to do something about your overflow resevoir. I had to cut about 3 inches off the bottom, then reseal it because the lower rad ouput was right in the way. Since your rad is wider, you may not have this problem.

I have a 31x19 Ford Motorsport radiator in the car right now with no hose problems so I hope the Griffin will just drop right in. I have a stainless UPR radiator bracket so it should work without modifications since I'm not using the factory brackets. My FMS is about 1/4 inch thinner than the Griffin. I finally got ahold of my friend that has two Mustangs with the Griffen radiators in them and he said he used the factory hoses. I hope I am lucky since I have the blue silicone hoses.

Actually I might have the 31" rad also. I don't have the car here right now, so I can't \measure it. Its the same width as the stock rad, but like you said, a little thicker. Like I said earlier, if you do have the same rad as mine, your going to have a clearance issue with you overflow resevoir.

I got my radiator in today. I can't install it because my car is at a guys shop. I see that the lower inlet is at an angle. I hope my new blue hose will fit. Stock wedth is 30" when I measured is and this is a 31". Any input would be appriciated.

Did you have any problems getting your hoses to work? I just not got around to installing mine. The top was a pain it the butt and I had to cut 1/4 inch off the aluminum tube for the hose to clear my blower pulley just barely. The lower hose looks like no way it would fit. I am going to try the 69 mustang hose.
