Ive been getting a slight grinding when I shift from 3rd to 4th and it only happens when Im getting on it like freeway entrance ramps, or the occasional street race, I know I should have an adjustable clutch cable /quadrant , but I dont (the car came with a tremec 3550 and pro. 5.0 shifter when I brought it)Is this grinding because I have to tighten the cable because it has too much slack and isnt releasing all the way? And why is it only grinding only in the 3rd to 4th shift at high rpm? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

yep. your clutch cable is too loose. thats what happened to me. just get under the car and adjust it (assuming you have an adjustable one). I have a FRPP adjustable cable with quadrant and firewall adjuster. its discouraging when you are driving around and you can hear that grinding noise.

well it possibly could be worse. i have an adj quadrant and firewall adjuster with a recently rebuilt t-5 in mine. i cant shift any further than 4k rpms from 1st to second cause it will grind pretty bad. my buddy that rebuilt it is gonna tear into it within a month. he thinks the gear might need to be replaced. just something to think about

Like said above, check the clutch cable. Remove the clutch dust cover, and look inside the bellhousing as someone pushes/releases the clutch. I think you can see the pressure plate through the dust cover hole. Just an idea, not sure though.

If 4th gear is the only gear effected, then my guess is your cluster gear is going.

So the grind you hear is only when you get on it? That may be a sign that your synchros are going out also.

Take it as easy as possible for the time being. Save up $200 for the rebuild kit & probably another $200 extra just in case something extremely major is busted. Yank the transmission when you are ready and rebuild that sucker!
