Hello all. Currently working on my friends 66 and he has been having transmission troubles. Last week he could get the car in drive and now it wont. With the car running and the clutch pushed in, I tried to put it in 1st 2nd 3rd and reverse but all it does is grind loud and hard. The master cylinder is good as is the slave cylinder. I dont know anything about transmissions other than how to replace a clutch.

Does anyone know why it is doing this and is there anything we can do short of taking it into a shop.

sounds to me like either the clutch is no adjusted properly or the disc is sticking to the flywheel. one other possibility is that there is air in the system that needs to be bled out.

Hydraulic clutch actuator?
Is it a 5 speed?
On my hydraulic clutch, 10 1/2 diaphragm clutch and 5 speed transmission, I found I needed to have some preload on the clutch so it would not grind the gears. Could need to bleed the system if it is hydraulic.

Sorry if I am reading your question wrong or assuming to much information...
