Hey everybody need a little help here! I running a gt 40 tubular manifold with a zex wet shot with a plate setup . Alot of my buddies seem to think that this is a bad idea as they say because the manifold being so fragile and thin and they also say that a nitrous backfire is un avoidable and is going to happen no matter what! Is that necessarly true? I mean that's why i went with the plate system in the first place. the other question is that I have a chance of getting a PIH kit for my 95 cobra clone at a very good price($300 with the A9L) and want to know how much better they really are? And where can i get instructions on repining my computer without the conversion kit, i heard that you can do that somewhere.

1995 cobra clone gt40 heads forged pistons, gt40 tublar,equal lenghts,x-pipe,flowmasters,24lb's,bbk cai, bbk fpr,zex 100-150 wet shot with a nos plate system,3.90 rear,exedy stage2+

Who ever told you the manifold is fragile doesnt know what they are talking about I seen guys run the same setup you want to run with no issues. The A9L computer is not better than the computer our cars have right now its more tricky to tune but once you get it tune correctly you shouldnt have issues I dont know why they say its better its more forgiving to mods but its not worth the hassel to repin and deal with other issues when you do the swap.

Well your buddies do have a point, the intake manifold was never designed to have raw fuel sprayed into it. So the chance of a backfire is possible whether or not your intake manifold will survive the blast I guess is up to the manifold. It is this reason I don't like wet nitrous kits unless they are direct port injected. There are guys that run the setup as you describe and never have a problem. Maybe you will be one of them, then again maybe you won't. I think anything up to 125hp is safe with a dry shot, if you want more than that personally I would look at the direct port myself but this is my opinion. I had much success with the Zex dry kit.

The PIH conversion, this is a touchy subject around here so be warned. Here are the facts. Yes it does work and you can do it without buying the expensive kit, which is a good thing because they don't make them anymore. If you would like the instructions let me know.
This conversion basically turns your car into a fox body mustang. The A9L computer will allow you to throw a ton of mods at it and perform just like a fox would. Heads cams intake injectors mass air meters no problem and no tune needed. Now with that being said this does not mean that this is the best option, but it is an option.

There are better options out there. I recommend you check out the tweecer RT it seems to be the best route. I have never used it but the guys I know that do seem to like it.

I'm a die hard dry nitrous kit fan, but I'll tell you straight up, running a wet kit on a GT40 intake is pretty low risk. The tubular intake is one of the strongest designs, not that it's even an issue. There is always a risk of a nitrous backfire with any nitrous kit. I've had friends blow the intake through the hood even with dry kits. Even so, a GT-40 intake is so outdated, you can pick up an upper intake for $150 all day long on ebay. So, even a major backfire isn't going to break the bank. I would be more worried about the ZEX kit. Those setups are notorious for running lean, which leads to internal engine damage. If you are really worried about it, I would sell the ZEX kit and get an NX wet kit, or an NOS dry kit. Both are much better quality, and will reduce the risk of messing up your engine. Run a good clutch and launch at 4000rpms or better and you won't have an issue. Most nitrous backfires are from feather footing off the line.

i have had compucar and nx kits both at 150 shot i have never hurt anything other than head gaskets which is better than i can say for my sc (HEAT PUMP LOL)have never had nitrous backfire and i use a old time toggle switch with button on shifter.i have used over 100 bottles over the years.i put it on my 95 with 120,000 it ran better than ever after i took bottle off.
