GT/CS licence plate modification

California requires a front plate and I hated how the dealer slapped it on the original location. I had to fill in the holes with body filler, primed and painted the holes...I used two aluminum brackets left over from the billet grille I have on the car. I cut two brackets to form and "L". Measured twice to get it centered properly and drilled a couple of holes in a more discreet location...Hope fully I don't get pulled over since the top of the plate doesn't show...

looks good. dont know how california is, but my bands singer got pulled over in new jersey because his AEM license plate bracket covered New Jersey up. pretty beat ticket.

Pretty good idea, but it would be wise to have the state name show along with stickers for registration purposes (if your state requires such...VA does).

I agree. I would modify it to make it be more straight and down.

I live in Ontario, Canada and we require front plates also. I however just never put one on the front and left my second plate in the trunk. I haven't been pulled over (yet ;-) since I got it 3 months ago so I guess i've just been lucky.

Regardless, I'll be looking at doing something like this for next summer when I take her out of storage after the winter. I hope I can at least get through the rest of the summer without getting caught.

I'd find a way to drop it down a little more, but registration stickers in cali go on the back plate.

I'll take a close up pic tonight so you all can see how it's bolted down. That's as low as I can go... That's also the most sturdy part of the bumper cover... if I go farther back it will be on the thin plastic splash shield... Plus if I put it on that shield it will be too low and cover the bottom part of the numbers...I'm sure if i put it on that thin shield it will "flap" when driving at highway speeds...

I made a custom lower grille and plate bracket for mine. I mounted it from the bottom. Used aluminum stock that I formed. Also made front brake cooling ducts from cup holder billet trim rings.

Yes.. California "requires" front plates.. but they don't enforce it. (at least they don't in this area). I have never put front plates on my cars..

It's just like the tint law.. cops would be pulling people over left and right.. Next time you sit at a stop light, count all of the cars without front plates..

good thinking. I always believe out of sight out of mind. I never put any plates on the front and never had a problem. And believe that if I put a plate on wrong in the front someone would be more likely to pull me over cause it stood out.

I think that lack of a front license plate, when required by law, gives the police "probable cause" to pull you over. They might not care about the plate, but it gives them the lawful opportunity to check for other things. Just something to think about.

You are correct a plate is considered a primary law and allows an officer the ability to stop a vehicle

Unlike something like a loud exhaust which is a secondary law and in certain states can not get pulled over for that sole reason.

I never ran a front plate either until I got stopped and the state trooper tried to give me a bogus 3 line ticket. When that didn't work he noticed no front plate and gave me a $75.00 ticket. It's all about revenue.

I just made my own bracket. It did require drilling in the lower grill but the holes are not noticeable when the plate is removed. My design allows easy removal and does not damage the paint at all. I made out of aluminum and I gave it a brushed finish. I did it all for $15 and a Sunday afternoon.

i know i know. front plates suck. but i cant afford any tickets, that will take away from my mod money.and we cant have that. haha.
