Gt40/ Gt40-p Head install???

As people are seeing im asking alot of dumb questions... ive been searching but not comming up with anything usefull... just want some info on how hard a head install is... i figure since i will be putting on an new intake manifold and some other mods.... y not look towards a set of budget heads... I know the gt40's and gt40p's have diffrent plug angles letting you only use certian headers exc... ive also looked at a few flow charts... and i figure that if i can get a set of gt40p's or gt40's for about $200 used it might not be a bad idea... now does anyone know where there is a write up on head installs??? also do you think a 204k motor will hold up to a head swap...??

to be honest i would probably just swap an explorer motor if you're looking for something budget. then you wont have to worry bout swapping heads and 204k miles.

well then id have to switch the cam over anyway correct... the explorer cams are balls... which i guess also brings me to the point... how hard are cams to install... the same cams from the 87-93's work in our cars as well correct???

yeah all ho cams will work.. cams are easy to install. all you have to do is pull the radiator and fans out. then pull valve covers, upper and lower intake off. loosen the rocker arms. pull the pushrods out. then the lifters. remove timing cover and water pump. then timing chain and there you are. if you were to swap an explorer motor over while the motor is out a cam swap would be like putting gas in a car. easy! its up to you but thats what i would do.

yea if im doing a cam might as well put in a new water pump as well... guess im gonna have to save up and do it right the first time

+1 for the explorer motor. maybe i'm still giddy 'cause i just got one, but one of the reasons for me doing so was because i was apprehensive of h/c/i'ing my high-milage stock engine.

think about how much easier it would be to work on it while it's out before you swap it in the car.

agreed.. if you were swapping the motor i would go ahead and do a water pump and thermostat. sometimes the thermostats stick when the engines are stored and not run for a period of time.. and if you swap the cam/lifters i would prolly go ahead and put a new timing set in it. while its apart do everything you can before you put it in. i would think that you could get the explorer motor, cam, lifters, water pump, thermostat, and all gaskets for under $1000... you could do that swap in a weekend easily..

Have you checked out the "Official How To Thread"? It is the very 1st sticky thread at the top of the forum page. If nothing there do a google search. I found lots of info when I was rebuilding my engine. Don't limit yourself to just these forums. There's a wealth of info out there in cyberspace.
