Gt40 head info

I'm goign to go to a huge car show and swap meet tomorrow and am going to look for some GT40 heads. How are these identified...don't want to get ripped off. Also what seems to be a reasonable price for these. I'll probably get the iron heads since I'm not too concerned about weight.

Three long dashes at the front of each head designates the GT40 heads. There are a few sets on ebay to get a picture. Don't get the GT40P heads.

oh I wasn't aware of that I also saw some on ebay that said they had 58 cc chambers is this standard? what Type of header do the P heads use because I was thinking about getting some for my 67 since I am selling the 65 hipo heads it has on it.

I paid $699.00 for custom ceramic headers to fit the P heads and they still burn through my plug wires with all the heat wrap you can think of. Stay away from those heads unless you are putting them on a late model stang.

Thanks for the heads up. that sucks because I found a set for 250 ready to go I have a 67 coupe except I have 289 I know the 351 is wider. would this make a diff? also anyone know the chamber size?

Do the GT40's need any modifications like the E7 heads do to work properly?

Neither GT40's or E7TE's require any modifications to bolt on. They are both direct replacements. I believe GT40's have 64cc chambers and some may have 351 size head bolts, necessitating the use of stepped bolts or bushings. GT40's are good for a fairly mild street motor, but there are better heads available for the money. GT40P's flow better but the hassles you'll encounter with header fitment make it not worth your while. Also, GT40's and E7TE's are setup for pedestal mount rockers and roller cam valvesprings. You'll need to replace the springs(unless you are running roller cam) and possibly use a different length pushrod. IMO, look for a set of world products windsor jr. or windsor sr. castings. Basically the same price, but more potential and none of the limitations of a factory casting.

"GT40Ps" flow better....yeah, about 5 cfm or so...nothing really worth considering. You should be able to pick up a nice set of GT40 heads, low mileage for UNDER $400. I wouldnt pay anything over $400 for a set. I had some and they were a good, mild performance head to use. I dont remember using larger head bolts though. You can also look for the Cobra Part number casting mark. I think it should read something like F3Ze....you can look it up online.
