i picked up a gt40 ( tubular)intake for a rediculous price ( $100 upper and lower). the only thing done to the engine right now is a full exhaust. is it worth the time to put the intake on now, or should i wait until i do the cam?

Putting it on a stock/relatively stock engine will result in an overall increase in HP/TQ, but you'll lose a LOT down low. Paul Perreca is right, wait until you have heads to match the flow, and you'll see the benefits of it.

yeah gains arnt to great without heads/cam. i threw a cobra intake on and felt no big difference. get crazy sideways in the 1-2 shift at redline but im not saying thats the reason why. i blew a head gasket last week due to nitrous and only 91 octane with advanced timing. so its a sign to get heads now

If you have the stock headers, then you may not see much difference. Either way, it will move your HP/TQ curve more towards the high-rpm range. You'll loose some low-end. IMHO, in a 5.0, many people wouldn't notice it.

Since I don't have a track-only car, I love the low-end grunt for my 5.0! :) So, I like more of a "well rounded" intake like the Explorer. But, some people want the most high-end HP (or dyno numbers) they can get. So, each to his own. :)

it will gain nothing...but look great.
i'd do it.....
Yup, if I still had my stock intake, I also do the swap! :)

Personally i wouldnt do an intake , money can be spent in better areas as said in above responses. If i had an AOD i would do a torque converter , if I had a Stick I would doe gears..

I did the 70mm TB an gt-40 intake at the same time. while it felt a little weaker down low it more than made up for it from 2500 rpms and up. Since you got a killer deal on the intake, and even if it doesnt pick up alot it will still look a whole lot better on your motor than a shelf.

put it on, upgrade the tb and egr as well as mass air meter, then it will make a nice difference.
in order to have more air you need more fuel so i recomend you with the intake a larger maff and some 24's...

Blackstangt how does the intake work and what rwhp does your car has?

24's are uneccessary for his application. i would toss it on there for sure. you said you had full exhaust....so adding an open intake will most deifnately give you a noticable improvement. maybe not huge but noticable.

it's a 5 speed car and i have 3.27's in the rear and a full exhaust(headers to tails). i don't know, i think the $100 was well spent. i could always put it on ebay and triple my money. i'll probably use it, i love how it looks. plus i want to supercharge the car (way) in the future

dont quote me... no, 24's aren't necessary, and an intake is used to divert the airflow going into the engine... never dynoed, but I'm going to do a chip when i do, so when that's in my mods, i can say.
