I have a 1985 GT with stock (standard bore) bottom end and GT40p heads with standard issue valves. The cam is an E-303 installed straight up. It has the original "Powered by Ford" finned aluminum valve covers. In the future I am thinking about installing the 1.7 roller rockers and want to know if they will clear the valve covers? Also, has anyone installed the 1.7's on the exhaust and 1.6's on the intake?

I'd be more concerned with whether or not you are going to run into piston to valve clearance problems.

I really don't think it will be a problem as many are running the 1.7's with the E303 cam. I have heard they hit the covers where the baffles are. My concern is almost all these are fuel injected cars that have the plain valve covers and the the finned aluminum "Powered by Ford" issues.

I am fairly certain my brother runs stock VCs with 1.7s on his GT40Ps. He does have the GT40 valves though. No clearance issues to speak of.

What year is his car? Does he have the aluminum finned "Powered by Ford" VC's? What cam is he running?

Yes they are...forged flat top with valve reliefs from the factory! The 86 pistons were true flat tops.

His car is an 86, but the motor is out of a 91. The VCs are the stock type, non finned, and the cam is a custom grind. I know it had a stock cam retarded 4 degrees prior to this cam.
