guage questions.........

bunch of guage questions here....
1, i'm sure it varies but are the stock tachs usually reading under or over what the engine's turning?
2, those guage clusters for the a/c vent, do you still get a reasonable amount of a/c flow from the vent with these in ( the double guage ones with the small vents on the side)
3, if i install an after market water temp guage do i need to keep the original functioning for the sake of the computer? (does this apply to oil pressure as well?) whats the best method anyone has used for plumbing in an after marlet and keeping the stock water guage?
4, not that it matters, but why does my temp guage go pegged with the car off and accessories on??? goofy cars.......lol

4. Because it's a Ford, and the stock gauges suck. You are on the right track replacing them with something reliable.

well it should go pegged after you run it and turn it off..think about itif your running the car and after you shut it off what is on to cool it off nothing

it shouldnt get that hot though....it will heat up some, but mine has never been that much hotter than when it is running.

thanks for the answers..........but, when i asked about the temp guage pegging, i mean if the cars stone cold!!!!!!!!!!! if i turn on my accesorry key position it will slowly rise to pegged..........lol........then if i turn it to start position it zero's out.......i was listening to the radio the other nite and looked at my temp guage and was like wtf the car had'nt even been running.........stupid thing.....oh yeah it only does it if i turn on the park lights or headlights....lol..try turning on your accessory ( key backwards ) and turning on your headlights..........they do that ghost thing to, where they'll stay at a certain reading untill you re start the car the next day......phantom guages.........idiot lights were bad enough i guess ford figured they'd add some extra excitement...lol

#2 - With the directional vents installed, no. Youll get hot with the A/C on full blast. IF you dont install the directional vents, so you just have the slats from the gauge cage, its better, but not like stock. If you use A/C and heater alot, skip the gauge cage. I wish someone had told me before I got mine, but it sure does look good.

my fuel gauge does the same as your temp gauge (rises to full, then drops to the real level, at start up).

you can retain the stock gauges. search on the topic in here. there are numerous write ups. here is a little write up with pics from Mike about the temp gauge retention.

the rear intake location is not as accurate for temps, but the stock gauge sucks, so it is a wash, IMHO.

My stock tach is off by about 100-200 doing a comparison by my shift light.

The stock water temp and oil pressure gauge are useless, you don't need to keep either hooked up.

I use autometer phantom 2 5/8 gauges in the vents and the a/c works, just not great through the little vents on the side. Problem is that they will go left to right, not up and down.

But your's come out cold? RydeOn's predicament was something I hadn't ever considered with that cage- I was planning on getting it for my boost gauges in the future, but that AC has to work for me.

Dont get me wrong, it does come out cold. My post could have been interpreted wrong now that I look back. What I meant was that it still comes out cold, but the air is so restricted that your car will stay hot if its a hot day outside. If its over 85 out, forget about it being cool inside. Id reccomend the A pillar gauges if you need that A/C
