I am hoping for 2600lbs or less. How close am I and/or what will get me there. I am really trying to get my car really light but keep it streetable and I don't want it to be a ragged out race car with headlights either, so I can't completly gut it. However, I'm trying ride that line. It's far from togeather, but this is what's in line right now, and what do you think the weight is going to be with this setup.

I don't know if you will get to the 2600lbs, but you will be close. Some of the things you have on the list weigh a ton, but then you will be adding weight with some of the other things. Good luck

If the car doesn't weigh under 2600lbs no driver i would be surprised.
My car weighs 2800lbs with me weighing 155lbs. so 2645lbs.
This is with 5 gal fuel and exactly everything you have done with the exeption of

hood prop and latch assy.
side mouldings
dash support frame
center console supports
quad shocks w/brackets
tailpipes
rear seat

replacements:
Don't have.
Front Coil Over Conversion
Tubular K-Member
Tubular A-arms
LX trim

I have a c-4 instead. The rest is all the same. I have been to two scales one at a local drag strip and one at the local recyling center. They were 50lbs. difference. 2800-2850

You have to have met your goal.

If you don't drain the fluid or at least bypass the pump then you have to push it through the pump which is much harder. On skinnies it's a lot easier.


P.S. I forgot that I also have a Fiberglass hood.

Do you have a truck stop in your area? Most of them have scales. $3.00 at the Gas City truck stop in Michigan City In. Takes out the guess work.

I would do that but the car isn't running right now, in fact it's in pieces and I am just wondering because if I'm going to delete things or make major changes, now is the time. I plan on a fiberglass hatch with a speedglass rear window. My windshield is pitted pretty bad and since a replacment will cost about the same in glass or speedglass, I'll probally go with speedglass I'll probally do fiberglass doors with manual windows before I paint it. I am not sure if fiberglass fenders would really be that much lighter. Well, at least I'm in the area.

I have a flaming river rack and it was well worth the money. I my car with the factory rack for a while and it was like night and day difference.

Sounds like you have the diet thing down pat.

My 82 hatch weighed 2705 without me, a year ago, with about half a tank. This is still with aluminum bumpers and a non ac heater. All stock sheetmetal and doors, stock front seats only. No carpet, sound deadener. Has a ds loop and subframes.

I also decided to go manual brakes, that has to be good for another 5-8lbs. I copied all that from a wordsheet I have saved on the computer. I am asking because I plan on a custom cam, and one factor is weight. I also plan on running a little 306.

my buddy cut the lines and then tied them to each other to keep the fluid in it...it wasn't that bad really

Holy crap that would be light! I'm hoping to be under 3000 lbs. w/o driver after my aluminum head install.....2600 lbs. would be insane.

My 89 coupe with just sound deadner, fuel injection crap gone. A fuel cell, cage, and full length subframes added. With a half tank weighed 2800 pounds.

I wish I bought a coupe in the first place. Oh well, I guess I'll have to resort to the fiberglass hatch and speedglass window. Trying to think of more ways to reduce weight, or do I pretty much have everything down?

Don't forget the weight you will/can shave off the engine.

If you ditch the EFI and go carb that'll save weight in the manifold and the associated wiring. And aluminum heads will save a significant amount of weight too.

Will this car see street duty? Will it have to pass emissions?

You could save at least 5 or 10 lbs with a dry cell, but smaller battery too.

How crazy are you gonna go? You can buy all lightweight engine internals, crank, rods, pistons, flywheel.....and the grand daddy of light weight engine weight savings an aluminum block from Dart or FRPP. There lighter and stronger.

Just an aluminum block will save about 60 lbs. That with heads and a carb intake will cover well over 100 lbs shaved off. Add the lightweight battery, and EFI wiring delete and Emissions stuff you can dump and you'll get anohter 50 lbs dropped I think.

Crazy, but not rich. I really want to stay EFI, but I am considering carb. ALumimum block, you mean the $4000+ one, that would be awesome but the costs...

Alright, I removed the stock K-member and A-arms. I can pick the front of the car off the jackstands by myself, and I'm no hulk. Yeah, nothing under the hood but still. I think I'm done with this weight reduction frenzy, in fact I think it's time to start putting this car back togeather. Everytime I start putting it back togeather, I end up tearing it back apart for some reason, but now I can't think of anything. The feeling "it's ready" is finally starting to come to me, it's about time.

I think I'm going to just put the flat tappet 306 in the car. I wanted 11:1 compression and pistons more suited for TFS heads but oh well, I'll just save the money towards something else and settle for 9.8:1 or so. Maby a turbocharger would fill in the extra space and make up for the lack of cubes. I still don't quite know what to do about the intake and such, I'll figure that out as I go. Right now I'm just going to try to get the trim primed and set on the chassis, a working interior, and the car ready for a motor. I want the FR manual rack system, but that may have to wait, I don't know. Definatly a custom cam. Maby an electric WP as well. Then I'll be able to get back into the racing seat.
