Hi there all :SNSign:

I had almost finished this proyect but i have 2 bugging mind questions

1.- The lifter guide retainer how much tq should it take, i mean the only 2 bolts but i cant find that specification anywhere i guess arround 10-18 ft/lb no more??

2.- I had read like 300 times how to set the rockers (studs) and all the docs ive read say that at zero lash just 1/2 turn (racier engines? more tapping sound) and for street use 3/4 of turn, so far so good , but none docs mention if the lifters are drained or with oil inside them (pressure) any way, i think that 3/4 is too much? (i feel that the rocker goes too much down, i have my lifters drained of course) i mean i cant afford a bent pushrod right now and of course none valve tip damage or any other disaster that can happen for tightening more, sorry i am little scared this is my first time doing this and i just put what i can see , or i should remove any fear and tight those little bastards 3/4 fearless :rlaugh:

Are you talking about the stud

Seems like it was 65lbs.

Did you get a booklet with your heads
If so ... all the torque specs are in it.

As for adjusting the preload .............

The hard part is knowing the exact point Zero Lash is obtained.

It is very hard to explain and much easier to show someone.

I move the pr up & down until it is very close and then focus on finding the exact point all slack is taken up.

If the lifter is filled or not ... makes no differnece.

Find a lifter that is empty, not pumped up, or however you wanna call it and then try to compress it ............

You will find is harder to compress that lifter than you might first think.

Just pay close attention to when all slack is gone. Most peeps set things up too tight cause they start their adjustment beyond zero lash.

Good Luck!

you need to bleed the lifters.

zero lash is the point at which the pushrod stops moving up and down without depressing the lifter. then you do 1/2 turns, tighten down the lock nut, and finish with 1/4 of a turn (3/4 turn total)

Thanks all :SNSign: members!

I have successfully finished setting up the whole valvetrain, it ended so well that i am amazed how well went all, i put 1/2 turn on the studs , if they endup being too noisy i will put another 1/4, but i think it will be ok. Thanks as always for all the support!!! :nice: :nice:

I just now have to put the bbk eq/length, and it seems is a pita on the passenger side because it hits the K Member! i have to raise the engine like 3/4 - 1 inch to align it!! :bang: not a "bolt on" as bbk says, the quick solution i see is hit a little the header on the "bent" it has precisely for that matter , and another thing i noted is that the passenger header its rubbing the a/c line  i will have to figure out a solution to this otherwise it will be a mess latter, i will try to keep updated

Thanks again!
