should i buy a cam and leave the stock rockers, orrrrrr leave the cam and buy 1.7's

this is a common misconception. if you get a cam with high lift like that you need to get roller rockers. The stock rocker arms flex ALOT at high RPM's, because they are made of stamped steel, aftermarket RR's are alot more ridged and don't flex at high RPM's. Now my question to you guys is do you absolutley have to replace the fuel pump? and how much HP can the stock pump hold, because I'm doin a similar thing and am upgrading to 24#er's and AFPR. also I've been looking at cams and have considered the Ford B cam but have had been told it might have too much duration for the heads I'm using(they had 1.60I,1.90E, sized valves). would the trickflow stage 1 be a good cam with a pretty good lope at idle?

I think your are being very generous with that number. I will say about 250rwhp, but thats just me. Remember what Rio5.0 got? He got 255rwhp with a tune, or thats what I heard. Becuase this isnt the best well put together combo. But good luck and see how it turns out. Oh and after you get this done just dont think your magically going to run 12's.

the stock mustang fuel pump is absolute garbage, it pumps out only 88lph, when ever you get heads/cam/intake i always reccomend going to a larger pump usually a 255lph because a larger pump can only help not hurt because any unused fuel is sent back to the tank to be refused.

new rockers aren't required but aid in making more power since there lighter (aluminum ones) and allow for smoother opertaion.

latham83

And yes I believe my power estimate is right on, everyone always thinks if they throw heads/cam/intake on a car that they will make at least 300rwhp, not always true. More than likey they usually fall short. Like anything its the right combo of parts, stock E7's even though fully ported have there limitations and won't flow like an aftermarket aluminum head with larger valves and weight 25lbs less each head. Also look at your intake a gt40 is a good street intake, but falls flat on its face in mid to high rpms. Same can be said with the E cam, its an old design and doesn't take advantage of a split profile like the newer cams have and has relatively mild lift and duration numbers.

You also have to consider the rest of your car, do you have a full exhaust (headers, mid pipe, and catback) how about a bigger maf, pulleys. Three's alot to consider.

you can use them but it will minimize your lift and performance due to the upgraded valve springs on the Thumper heads, so basically you won't be getting the max performance from your cam, it's all about valve train stability and rigidity when you want performance. So it would be a good idea to upgrade to some RR's, and just because these guys didn't say so doesn't mean it's not true. Also this is just one of the boards I visit, I immerse myself in automotive tech, I've asked these type of questions to alot of different people a million times over so I know a little bit of what I'm talking about.

EDIT: jeez you guys post fast you already had like 5 when I was done writing my post, makes mine look kinda outa place down here.

maybe just optimistic thinking, we all hope to make big power but usually doesn't turn out the way we think, I say you be in low 13's

Holy crap, 88lbph, that's nothin at all. looks like I will be gettin a fuel pump, hehe. would Kirban be a good name for a fuel pump to get? I'd be happy if I got 275 RWHP and hit low 13's. But i would tend to think the torque would be more around 290. This is all costing WAAY more than I thought it would, but hey for my stang I'd kill. And thanks for the info "BMO37".

Well, I can not believe thumper would recommend an E-cam...they really are not that good. If you want some idea of HP and Torque figures, check the link out, at the bottom is my Dyno, that is with a brand new FMS crate motor cobra intake 24# injectors E-cam GT-40 X heads, 5-speed and gears 155 fuel pump. Lets see you got to do more than half the parts to get the full benifit of what you put on. Thats with a dyno tune, HPhttp://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/490341

249RWHP, 298 torque

One more thing, I think I will be doing good to run high 13's but then I do have a heavier LX vert. You may also break into the 13's with your setup but you are going to need the basics first. Heads are great but the only exaust mod I see is the H-pipe,

I need a big tall BS flag to put on that one. 300RWHP is Not going to get you into the 11's unless you have a 2600 lb car. And last time I checked Most street stangs are not running 3200 lbs. Especially with the driver sitting in them. Granted a 4.10 gear and some slicks would help but we are talking about a street car with street tires. My 82 ran a 12.14 @ 116 mph, that sucked for the car, I should have been well into the 11's, but I am making over 400 RWHP. That car weighs 3650 lbs though. 300RWHP IS A LOT OF POWER, most guys will not see that with just motor unless they sink a lot of money into it. Be realistic and get a clueIII

Go ahead and call BS.....its a fact that 300rwhp cars can go high 11s with traction. I dont care what you think. I have seen it with my own eyes. Many people with 300 rwhp run 11s. Before you call BS you may want to do a little research first.....I have seen with my own eyes cars with 300rwhp go 11.90s. I really dont care if you call BS....your the one that looks stupid not me!

My car was 3225 before and it is 3050 now. Its a street car.

I agree get what you want but look at everything before you do. With the setup you are going to have the stock injectors will make it, you will need the fuel pump. You need to get more air and fuel in and out of your motor. That means intake, cam, fuel system, heads and exaust have to be done. If you are missing any of those items you wont have the full benefit you could from part of it. Any part of that will help. A good cam will help and the e-cam makes more is the best choice of the FMS cams for what you have. Good Luck with your decision.
