H/C/I with supercharger or nitrous: Too much for stock motor?

If i did a good h/c/i, would my engine handle say, a 100 shot or like 10lbs of boost in addition? See, my friend is talking a supercharger on his 97' camaro ss...basically i have to beat him, and i want to know what the 5.0 can handle for power...thanks, also which would be better..THANKS!

i would say that your short block should be able to handle 400rwhp fairly safely, Which is about as much power as you would probably be looking at. I am pretty sure there are quite a few people on here running more then 400 hp w/ there stock shortblock...

wow nice...would putting in a girdle help....but i guess the weak link is the pistons/conn rods huh....how much can the stock crank handle?

The problem is people getting crazy with boost that harms the motor. A stock block can handle 500 HP. I've seen one come apart at 550 HP at the wheels. Split the block in two. As long as your motor is in good condition then 8-9 psi will be plenty. I'm not a nitrous guy so I can't answer the other question.

The 94 made close to 500rwhp, stock shortblock.


Had too much fun one day and blew a rod.

I am now building up an old E6 block, with forged internals. This should be more fun... but I dont know HOW much fun before she splits.


Also, your buddy in the CAMARO cannot, repeat CANNOT go past 6lbs of boost, or else he will have serious pinging and detonation due to his high compression ratio. That car has 10:5:1 compression, opposed to your 9:5/4:1 compression.




You can honestly build a pretty stout shortblock for about $800 in parts, just buy some old TRW pistons from a FOX mustang, order some nice I or H beam rods(~$300-400), and a forged crank(~$350-400).


I'd personally be more worried about the block splitting than anything else.
