Hey guys, you may remember me from all of the poor gas milage questions. Well good news (hopefully), I took it to a mustang guy here in Florida and he said that the cats were cashed. He said this was probably causing the horrible gas milage, and he said the car felt a little sluggish. Well, if this is the case, then I'm pumped. Bad Cats means fixing the problem with a performance upgrade. I have stock headers (exhaust manifold?) and a stock cat-back with flowmaster mufflers. I pretty sure all of this stuff is 2 1/4 inch piping. I wanna get rid of the cats and put on an off road H-Pipe or X-pipe. What are the differences b/t the two and do you have any reccomedations? Thanks so much for your help, this is a valuable resource to me, as I'm new to the mustang game.

Thanks
Mike

Defintily get a Pro-Chamber if going with an off road type pipe.

H-pipes suck. They are crap. They are a design that dates back to the 30's/40's. They are outdated. X-pipes are wayyyyyyy better. The Pro-Chamber is a modified X-pipe kind of design. I've read many tech articles and test articles on the X and Pro-Chamber mid pipes. IN everyone the performance has been far and above that of the H-pipe design and the X and Pro-C are with in a couple hp of each other everytime with the edge always falling to the Pro-C.

If you have stock headers, it isnt going to have hardly any difference if you go with a 150 dollar bbk h pipe or a 300 x pipe. If you want to see noticable gains go with full length headers and a matching x pipe.

I have had a h pipe with high flow cats and an O/R h pipe and i can find almost no differences between the two in terms of power but the sound difference is crazy...O/R mid pipes really make the car sound like it should.

IMO, you can't beat the fit or qaulity of a stainless steel Bassani X pipe...

The horsepower differences between any of the common pipes, including the prochamber should be nothing you notice...

I prefer the sound of my off-road H pipe (MAC) to that of the X pipe. The H pipe sounds more deep and gutteral, the X pipe is more raspy. To my ears the off-road H pipe makes my car sound like a 60's muscle car -- the classic small block sound that it was meant to have.

H-pipe=Classic sound. Your best bet is to try to find Stangs w/either pipe and listen for yourself.
