searched some on the p1131 code but haven't found an answer yet.

I'm sort of thinking that the car may only need a tune to fix the problem, but I have no cash to buy one.

how do these tuners work exactly? is the handheld variety something that you just plug in, map your ecu, and unplug? or is it something thats permanately installed?

reason that I ask is that it seems like alot of people have one, so if theres someone local that already has one is this something that I could borrow from a willing party to use to set my ecu or whatever and then give it back?

sorry never needed anything like this for a car

You can rent a scanner from autozone for free. You can clear the code with the scanner. Then see if the code comes back. Or just pull your battery cable for at least 5 minutes.

Any tune whether from a handheld or a chip won't fix a mechanical problem and that's what you have. My guess is you have an exhaust leak on one side that's why it's throwing a lean code on one side. It only takes a pinpoint leak to add enough atmospheric oxygen to set a lean code.

It could also be a bad 02 sensor as well.

had an exhaust leak before at the flange gasket, replaced it though and it sounds good, I don't hear any leaks.

what exactly are the "mil" things. is it just a resistor that plugs into the plug for the o2 sensor? is that better or cheaper than replacing the o2 sensor?

actually if it is the o2 sensor to be sure before buying one couldn't I swap the right and left and just see if it throughs a left bank code after?
