hatch cover

What year did they start using the shorter hatch cover in the 87-93 era? A guy at work bought a '93 stang brand new and took the cover off the first week. He gave it to me but I have an '87 and it's just too short for my hatch. So I was just wondering what year they shortened them. Thanks

They changed the length and position of hatchcovers starting in 1990. 1987-1989 were a different length in a different position. No, a 1990-93 hatchcover will not fit your 87.

PonyBoy is 100% correct. I have both, and the 90-93 model shade is shorter than my original 87 shade.

The 90-93 shades are about 48-1/2" wide. I just gave away my old 87 shade, so I don't know the dimensions.

I just found this thread thru the forum search because of the same fitment issues.
I have a '84, '88, and '91 to measure, and all three are completely different in length. Ford and their better ideas

It's just do to the interior changes through the years. Fprd had to make the rear quarter plastics a bit narrow due to the shoulder belt set belt mounts added in 1990. As a result, narrower pull shade.

My 89 measures 49-3/4"... so I'll assume the 87-98 are the same.

the mount is different as well. Make sure you get the right one.
