I am trying to figure out what everyone else thinks because I am getting conflicting ideas. I have a loud lifter tap and I am planing on buying a crower cam and lifter setup along with the rocker arms coming up. However, I just bought the gaskets for the valve covers and the intake so that I could take it apart to see what is wrong. Heres the question: Should I wait until I have parts in the next month or so to tear down the top end and fix or should I go ahead and take it apart now to see whats wrong and then order parts? Oh yeah its my daily driver and I need it for work.

I would just wait until you get the cam. Why take it apart twice.

Could aslo be a loose rocker arm

Yeah thats my delima. I'm sure everyone from last night heard what I am talking about. It doesn't seem to be effecting the overall performance. I think I might just do the tuneup for now and call it good for a short while. Thanks

gaskets and your labor are cheap. Compared to not being able to go to work.

Well it sounds like I have a friend back home thats going to send me an extra set of lifters that he has and send me some good links for the roller rockers. I think the cam will wait until I do the heads.

Some lifters get finicky when it's time for an oil change. Doesn't take too long to do an oil change.

Nope not the oil. I just got the ride like a week 1/2 ago and I put the lucas synthetic oil stabilizer along with royal purple. I have only put maybe 200 miles on it. I just got done doing the plugs and wires and it doesn't seem to have the miss anymore and it idles better, but I checked the codes and it seems that I need to reset the TPS setting. If anyone is down for helping me with teh lifters and rocker arms coming up that would be cool. I can swap work and I always have cold brew in the fridge. Let me know.

you added stabilizer and oil? or you added stabilizer with an oil change. Stabilizers don't get rid of sludge or thickened, worn oil. Anyways, I'll lend you a hand if you want, I've done a lot of rocker/lifter work with a few of my old motors. Where are you located?

Take the valve cover off and if it's not obvious which one is bad start it and with a heavy glove on put pressure on each rocker arm, the noisy one will be easy to find. If it's just a push rod or rocker you can fix it cheap. Why drive it like that for another month?

"added stabilizer with an oil change". I am right down from the 71st, soper hill and sunny side intersection in MV. Also I hate to ask but what is your name again? I am terrible with names, but I never forget cars and faces. I will probably be doing the work in the next month or so.

Just get the lifters from your buddy, buy a Trickflow stage 1 cam from Summit, buy my ported E7 heads with compcams beehive valvesprings, and bolt that stuff on. I'll let you have the heads for $300. The springs were $200, and the heads have a freash 3-angle valve job, new seals, ready to go!

That is SUCH a tempting offer. If you can hold them for me I will have the cash in the next few weeks. I should have the lifters shipped within the next week or so. So from the sound of it, the heads are reworked with springs? Let me know so I know what to order. Thanks in advance.

I ported the heads myself, but they mostly have been smoothed. I had the 3 angle valve job done about 8 months ago, but the car has only been driven on weekends (3000 miles?) They have comp Beehive springs, and I have them set up a little tight (seat pressure) for the turbo setup, but would work great for you too. I can pull a couple of shims out of them if you want when you buy them. I have had a couple of offers, but they want me to ship them. I'd reather just hand them off to someone I know. They are still on the car right now, so it'll be atleast a week or two before I'll be ready to part with them anyway.

$300 and they are yours, and I believe the Trickflow cam is around $150 from Summit, and if you want head gaskets, I'd go with Fel-pro 9333. I think they are around $20 ea, but work well.

That's cool, just an fyi, I believe these heads would run right with GT-40 or GT-40p heads. Hope it works out

Well I spoke with my wife and she wants me to hold off on the heads for a little while and just get the lifters and rocker arms for now. Maybe just the lifters for now. If you have someone that wants them thought definitly sell them.

That's cool, been in your shoes before. If anything changes and you still want them, just let me know.
