Am I going to run into any problems?

If it's close to as easy on a 5.0, I'll be fine. I read somewhere that I have to use a pry bar to get the belt back onto the alt, but that would seem to indicate that their is no tensioner on the engine...

Somebody here must have experience with these crappy cars.

I changed the one on my wifes old 96 cavalier and I did it by myself in about an hour max. It was pretty easy. It wasnt the 2.4L though, it was the smaller engine.

I think it should be straight forward. I used to have a 98 Sunfire which is basically the same thing. I believe the pry bar is used on the tensioner, because the car has this weird spring loaded tensioning device, which exploded on my car. Only thing that ever went wrong with it.

I can't imagine it being very difficult, I just don't want to say I'll do it for the person and then let them down because there was something about the engine I didn't expect.

So there's not a bolt on the tensioner to get a socket on? hmm OK. I'll bring a bar incase.

I'm not sure how the Cavs are, but I've changed a couple on various cars that had a square hole on the tensioner bracket. I would use a long ratchet and put it in the hole and pry with it. Automatic tensioner.

Not sure if that's what you're describing or not.

When you doing this? I have a Haynes manual at home that I could copy that part for you tomorrow.

Yeah, should be pretty easy. Basically just use a ratchet of some sort....something longer than 6 inches would be much easier....pry it over to get some slack, pull the belt off, couple of bolts to take of teh alt and disconnect the harness. Couple bolts back on, harness back on.....use the ratchet to get some slack in the belt and wrap it back around the alt.....let it snap back into place....

done.

Do it right and your sexual favors might last longer than it took for the fix

OK. That's what I wanted to hear. I did the alt on my 5.0 in about an hour and a half, but that included all new wiring and the necessary crimping.
