HC Trap Removal

I was reading a Mustang magazine performing a Steeda CAI mod. They mentioned to beware of removing the HC Trap without doing a PCM recalibration. Is a recalibration really necessary if your only removing the HC Trap and not installing a CAI system. I would think think the pcm should adjust for the change. Comments?

what ever happened to the good old computer from the 5.0's that could automatically take a blower, heads, pipes, anything you can throw at it and they would adjust to work with whats given... weird how technology advances to be so much more complicated, now you need a tuner to adjust to a air filter... this is rediculous

Tell me about it, I had every bolt-on plus a huge cam in my 2001 Firehawk on the stock tune. (not that I didn't get it tuned after the cam but I did drive it for a few days like that)

It's rediculous that you have to have a tuner to install bolt-ons nowadays. What happened?

i removed mine three months ago without a tune, and have had no problems. Ford also stopped putting them in cars produced April 2005 forward, but did not change the tune on the car.

Based on Ford's change, and my own experience, I don't believe it is necessary to tune when removing the HC trap.

I was gonna say the same thing about them newfangled 5.0s, what with oxygen sensors and computers. My old car is self adjusting too, it has avacuum line to change the dizzy's advance based on throttle position

Mine didn't have one.

I pulled mine out a long time ago - no new tune and about a 1 mpg increase.
