evrything looks like a well matched combo until you threw out the well worked e7/gt40 thing. i have no personal experience with building with those heads, but i have seen enough people struggle trying to reach power goals that i will throw my .02 in there... ill def agree with grady and recommend tfs heads. not afr's since the budget is tight. but then i wonder, how much of a price difference would it be between new alum heads, and gt40's after they are ported? cant be more than a couple hundred. if your budget is so tight, you probably shouldnt go through with the h/c/i swap. you need to have some wiggle room with funds in case something goes wrong in the install. i.e. it runs like crap after and "cant figure out why" those things tend to be timely at the least, and costly at the worst. don't mean to drag ya down, thats just my opinion. Good luck with whatever route you decide to go down. I always wish the best to any fellow SN member trying to step it up!

well i agree with the 'no e7/gt40'......but like i have said, funds are tight. i do have wiggle room, i have allowed for that. in all honesty, i probably have a little more money than i actually need BUT i want to keep it that way. thats why i wanted a budget head. i dont expect 300whp with my combo ( change of cam ) and gt40's. its hard to get big power will little money. if i did go that route tho, i still expect a fun car with maybe something in the 270whp range.

i do appreciate the good luck and comments tho.

I DON'T know about that

I DO know our hobby is an ... Expensive Hobby

We all want to gain with each buck spent

We all go when we later learn we hosed
and
Then we go thinking about the hose up cost in dollars & effort

HEY ... We live in the information age Don't Ya Know

Why not take advantage of it

Soooooo

Wonder if anybody has pulls from a combo with ..............
OEM Iron heads and that stage 2 cam

We could then .......
thus
That would then allow us to .........

droptopford 5 0 has some interesting things to say and I wanna
carry them out a bit farther with a different twist ......
but still
I'm all about ... Getting the most for the least spent

I know I got AFR's ... so this is most likely gonna look like I'm defending
them but ... that is not my motivation for this post

Just wondering about something ...
and
Trying to think a bit out of the box

Its about saving money and working within budgets

This next part is gonna sound harsh ... but here goes

I don't give a rats azz
how how tough cash is to obtain for anyone
facts are facts
They work the same for me ... for you ...
Its the same for all of us

Lets talk percentage of combos you can find for a second here

Go with the majority of your desired results
and
You have the best chance of duplicating their efforts

That is a simple fact!!!
and
Lack or Excess of funds has no bearing on that

Some parts of the combo are worth the extra cash
and
Some are not
and
Some can wait

Those critical parts ... the more expensive ones
IMHO ... There should be no compromise here
and
They are worth the discipline it takes to save longer for them

Now ... a shift in thinking ... but ... I still see .....
Effective ways one could make their money go farther

About the AFR's being ... Too Expensive

Does not TFS dictate stud rr's
Most peeps don't have them as OEM heads run peds
Buy the time one obtains the stud mounts
Are they really all ... that much ... cheaper

I would not want to
but
Here is one of those ... "WAYS"
One could make a compromise
That would not hurt performance all that much

Consider AFR's and move over whatever rockers you got to them
I'm even talkin about the OEM steel stamped rockers as well
Hey ... you can always upgrade them ... when funds have been
allotted for the more important parts of the combo

Another thing I have been asked over and over
Why did I spend the extra money for my Edel intake

I ran it cause ... the majority were making more power with that
particular brand of intake ...
AND
I noticed spacers were not being used by peeps using those intakes
soooooo
The additional cost of a spacer was not an issue with that choice

Summing up here .............

Some times ... one may not be able to save ANY money with
combo parts decisions

But ... consider this

Some of those times ...
one can get better value (performance) for that same amount spent
and
Sometimes ... You gotta consider bumping the budget up a tad

I'm done now

As always .......
Feel free to tell me to ... Please ... Just quietly go away

Don't ever let anyone tell you that the parts you got are no good, or that you are afraid to go fast, if that is all you can afford. Do what you can afford and good luck You will wake up that car either way!

I am not talking about Grady! Grady has posted good info and thoughts.

See that is the thing I have difficulty with ... at times

I try to post generically
and
Not point my replies at anyone specific
but
I see I may have unintentionally pointed my six guns at fiveoho

If I did
or
If you perceive that I did

Then Sir ... You have my ... Official ... Sorry about that

My thoughts were not to say you had bad parts

My efforts were to encourage EVERYBODY to:
Consider each and every option available to them
Consider the outcome of each option

and

If unsure about some of those options
Look and Lean from other's
Success
and
Failures

As for the money budget thing .......
Again ... Before Spending ... Do the fact gathering thing

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone ... but for me .....

I knew what I wanted and kept putting back funds as I could
because
I wanted a very specific outcome
and
My research showed it required a specific plan
and
I vowed to myself ... THIS time ... with THIS combo :Word:

I would not compromise my expectations in certain areas due
to money constraints

Did I have a budget
Did I have money issues
or
More clearly put ... Did I run out of Money

Look at my sig
Why do you think you see a stock part or two being reused

Can you not plainly see my choices where I felt a compromise
would hurt me the least

I was like ... Let me see
Do I want my specific h/c/i choice
or
Do I upgrade the stock stuff

Hey ... I did not have the funds to do it all ... at the time

So ... You Bet ... I relate to working within a budget

anyway ...........

My intent was to motivate and encourage All to consider
possibilities beyond what they might think is possible

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers out there

How are you figuring thats $10 number, just curious, because a GOOD HCI will set you back around 2grand. that would put you at 300rwph roughly, now from stock thats a additional 115rwhp, 115*10=$1150, so i'd venture to say its a little more that $10, but idk??

DUH...I was thinking my 408 and FWHP. It is costing me $5000 for 500HP.

Let's see...300rwhp is roughly 350FWHP (HP).... I bought a 306SB complete for $1700 and Trick flow heads for $1200 and intake stuff for $450..well that's around $3,500 for 350FHP.

Well I dont have an H/C/I but if it means anything, I beat the hell out of my car just about every day for the past year. And I have had no problems besides the water pump, HB, PIP, and TO bearing. And Ill be changing my O2 sensors tomorrow.
