Alright everyone i am piecing together all my stuff for the bolt on of my gt40irons and gt40/explorer intake(still shopping) and 1.7rr's.

I was wondering if the head gasket sets are all the same for the 5.0, cobra, and explorer. Excluding the upper intake gasket which is obviously different.... cause autozone sells a gasket set for
79.00 for the 5.0
88.00 for the 5.0 cobra
and 71.00 for a 96 explorer set..I'm assuming i could use any of the three but the explorer is the cheapest

Also what is a good head bolt set for the 5.0, would any 302 set be ok.....

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

I bought the explorer set and I ordered ARP head, intake, and header bolts for my rebuild. I havnt put it together yet, but the gaskets look good. I may spring for the one piece oil pan gasket though.

ok is this safe...

96 5.0L Felpro head gasket set
96 5.0L valve cover gasket, i was wondering about this cause i have to double stack for rr clearance. What material do i want to use and how to i go about doing this.....

And as far as HEAD bolt set could someone send me a link or part number for a kit ARP preferred.... I heard i need a special kit that will allow for bigger use of bolts since the heads have a different size. SO basically i need someone who knows what htis is about to help me out!

Dont have a link but you have 2 different head bolt sizes...7/16s and 1/2s...the 302 block is made for 7/16s and the 351s are made for the 1/2s...If you are using a set of heads that have a 1/2 inch bore in the heads for the bolts then they make a ARP kit that comes with spacers that center the bolt in the bolt hole so that it can get equal pressure all around the bolt and the bolt stays straight

The 302/351W gaskets themselves are the same, since the bushings that locate the heads also locate the head gaskets. The 7/16 vs. 1/2 inch issue only pertains to the head bolts themselves. I second the 1011-1 or 8548PT-2. I'm gonna toss this one in tech, too.

Just get standard 5.0 Felpro heads gaskets. There is nothing, nothing, nothing special about the GT-40 heads that require anything but the standard gaskets. GT-40 heads are not aftermarket. They came on thousands upon thousands of Ford vehicles from Mustangs to Explorers. I used Felpro 9333 PT-1 gaskets.

The bolts you need are 7/16" assuming the heads came off of a 5.0 Cobra. Unless it was a Cobra R it was a 5.0. You need ARP# 154-3701 bolt kit.

All you need is the standard arp hex head bolts for a 302 with stock iron heads. Some GT40 style heads (351 lightning and aftermarket ford sold GT40's) have the 1/2" bolt holes but the ones that came stock on 302's like the cobra and explorer gt 40 heads they have 7/16 bolt holes. My stock 95 cobra heads have 7/16 bolt holes. I am going to buy some of these bolts Friday myself. A local speed shop has them for 42.95 per set. The $49.95 set in the link above are priced higher because they have 12pt heads. The set priced 41.95 are the same thing with a hex head.

As far as head gaskets go any head gasket for a 87 up 302 will work.

Just get the 9333pt-1 head gasket set or the 8548pt-2 set. For the head bolts, you'll need 7/16" head bolts.
