I recently came into really good luck.... (well good luck in my mind) a free none running 89 LX 5.0 due previous owner starting a project and not finishing...... and it came with some performance parts ...... for example.... a pair of turbo's and all connecting hardware (not free).... well i had planned on just bolting everything together with the help of my uncle who's a ford mechanic. well crappy thing about that is that even though he's a ford mechanic this is appearantly out of his skill range. well while bolting and negotiating things together. friend of mine walked up and told me that the head gaskets wont be able to take the extra pressure. so i decided to tear the engine down and have it machined out... (FYI... i've been having this care for about 8 months now) .... long story short and to my question. are there any other weak points or snags that i should look out for on the engine, tranny, drive shaft and rear end?

What are your goals? How much power do you plan on making?

if its a turbo car your gonna run into snags no matter what.

Just get it running good and fix what breaks along the way. What fuel system are you running? and what else is done to the car

Like 90lxcoupe posted, just get it running well and keep the boast down. There is lot of 5.0 Mustang pushing over 400 hp at the wheels and that is about 500 hp at the crank. That is about the limit of the stock block before things starting to go byebye. Good aftermarket head gaskets is just one of the things we bring to the gunfight.
Most turbo Mustang could easy pass the 400 hp mark on a otherwise stock engine.
