Header & 351w are not even close

Just got my engine put in - you can see the thread here.

I have two sets of headers that I got on the cheap. The first set I got was some crappy 351w swap headers from ford. The second set was a much better pair from BBK - both headers were the shorty headers.

Neither of these even came close to fitting. I have a 68 mustang. I could get about 4 fingers on each side between the engine and the shock tower.

I thought a 351w shortie header should of fit no problem.

Just looking for some insight.

Cheap Heddman swap long tubes work pretty well for me in the ultra-tight 66. Hope it works with my t5 swap... we'll see. But htey've been solid for me for years.

If you need, you can get them shiny coated for 270, or jsut the matte finish for 130. They're prone to minor leaks, so you have to keep em tightened periodically. But they're a lot cheaper than Hookers or others, and they definitely fit...

What do you mean they don't fit? Did you try putting them on the engine before it went in the car to see if the mounting holes lined up or do you mean you can't even install it in the car because of clearances? If it's the latter, you'll need to bring them up to the motor from underneath.

first the shock towers need to be spread apart as they are too close together. get an export brace for your car and install it. second, you have the wrong headers for your car. the 351w swap headers turn down much sooner than the headers you have on the car now. those look like fox body swap headers.

Headers fit the engine, no clearance. I couldn't tell you what the headers were too. just that they fit the 351w. cheapo stuff here... Probably fox body stuff.

1. Export brace - I agree - Ordered.

Anyone offer up any links to some shorty type headers that would work for me and not break the bank. :)
