Header deal that may be to good to be true.

I found a set of BBK longtube headers on craigslist locally for $125 . I'm going to look at them tomorrow and was wondering if any of you have any advice on what to look for in quality before I buy them.

They're probably rusty. Offer 75 or 100 and get them professionally stripped and coated. Even my ceramic coated Hooker headers are getting pretty rusty. One bad thing about the BBK's are that you have to remove one side to get the transmission out. I've already had to remove my transmission twice since I had my headers installed, but my headers allow the transmission to be dropped which saved me money.

Don't forget to buy new gaskets and o2 extenders. You can reuse the stock hardware to save money.

I have BBK's. If they are long tubes then they are a good deal but just as stated you will need new gaskets and 02 sensors along with a new midpipe. If you are wanting/needing a catted midpipe for longtubes there isn't a huge selection and those can run 400ish new. MRT has one I believe but I'm not sure who else out there does.

What exactly does the ad specify? I can understand a pair of chrome longtubes going for $125 if they've spent the last 10 years or so on a 99/00 GT (for example). As long as there are no significant dents, bends, or punctures in the metal then I'd be interested. I wouldn't mind any rust or whatnot too much since you can get them re-coated for fairly cheap.

my only recommendations would be to buy them. If they are rusty, clean them up, paint them, and install them.

paint will burn off as soon as the headers heat up and heat wrap holds in moisture

clean them up and paint them with VHT header paint, you can get it from any auto part stores. i used it on my headers and it never burned off!!! 3 years going strong!
