Header Question

I just ordered a set of full length Flowtech headers for my 1987 GT, part # 12104. After about 6 hours of trying to fit them i find out they will not work. I understand that full length headers are a pain to put in but i have never had a problem before this. Also aftermarket parts dont always fit right but, even after removing the driver side motor mount and steering linkage there was no way the linkage would be able to turn with the header in place. I would like to use full length headers if possible which brand would you recommend?? by the way it is a 5 speed manual trans

I have found with most long tube headers you need to change your steering shaft. Maximum Motorsports makes a nice one for about $200.00

bbk.

they are fairly easy to install (i installed them by myself on 2 cars). they clear the steering shaft. you do have to raise the engine 4-5" on the pass side

bbk all the way,dont buy the chrome get the ceramic coated.there very easy to install.pull the spark plugs,put the front end up on jack stands,loosen up the driver side motor mount and jack it up by the bellhousing and install the header from underneith,once installed, lower the motor,tighten the motor mount. do the same on the other side,but this side installs from up top.you wont have to mess with your steering.

Flowtech FTL. Go BBK all the way. They cost more, but they are worth saving the hasle of install and they are a quality product.

BBK makes a great set of long tube headers, their flange is nice and thick too, no warping!

you get what you pay for...we have had many problems with flowtech headers not fitting good.....some were not even close.

slow95gt is running mac longtubes on his car and they where a pain in the arse to install but fit nicely,

what about bassani? i know they are expensive but is the stepped design and their quality worth it?

Stepped design helps with torque, but is not really worth the extra cost. I would also say stick with BBK's or similar

I run BBK LTs.

Mine went in pretty easy. I uncoupled the rag joint on the steering shaft and put the drivers side in and I pulled the starter on the passenger side and put it in. Bolted the starter and rag joint back together and was done in under 2 hours tops.

does anyone have any pics of the ground clearance of longtubes? my car is not lowered and i don't plan on lowering it, but in colorado ground clearance can be an issue with our roads.

no pics, but i'm running bbk LT's on a stock height car, and they dont even hang as low as other stuff under the car. i live in canada, and our roads are total garbage, but they dont scrape
