Headers / Cam for a 351W/ 393

Hi all,

New to this and I have to say that this forum is GREAT!!
Just purchased my FIRST Ford. She's a 1968 Mustang Coupe.
I decided to go the 351W swap route stroked to 393.
Have all the goodies except for headers / cam/ carb.
Can anyone recommend a good set of headers that will fit?
I see that some of you are using HOOKERS for a 302 (part 6901)?

Any suggestions for a cam / carb would be great to.

Here is what I have so far.

69 351W Block .30 over
SCAT 393 Stroker Kit
Probe Forged Pistons (flattop)
AFR 185 61cc heads
Edelbrock RPM intake
Trick flow Hardened Pushrods
Pro-Magnum Roller Rockers
ARP Bolts
4 speed tranny (toploader I think)
 
I'm very happy with the Hooker Comps, NOT the Supercomps, they hang too low.
Crane makes some very good hydraulic roller cams which is a breeze to convert over to in that 69 block. I don't have my book with me, but about a 542/563 lift maybe about a 242 duration should clear the piston tops with enough plenty of room with 1.6:1 rockers, if there are valve reliefs cut in them??
If not, you'll probably want to find something without as much lift.
Mechanical roller would be the way to really go, if you're into that.
Desired RPM limit??
The heads and intake you have will be very good for the street.
 
A Holley 750 HP would probably take care of your needs or a Demon 750. Other wise a 950 Holley HP would probably work great for an engine that size if you wanted to lean more to the performance side. Though with the 185cc heads a 950might be a bit much. You should probably talk to one of the carb shops, like Wilson carbs or Biggs.

Cam is harder to recommend because we don't know how you intend to use it, but a good performance cam could be a Comp Cams XR276RF or XR282RF hydraulic roller. Both are perfomance cams but would be very streetable.
 
Boy watch out for that 69 block. Great block but better do your homework on this one. Biggest thing to watch out for is the 9.48 deck clearance. My 69 block I pulled out of the junkyard myself. 98,000miles on odometer. Had original pistons, bearing, and timing chain. No signs of it ever being touched. Took the block to the machinest and he checked it at around 9.46 already without even touching it! Had already balanced rotating assembly otherwise I could have flycut the pistons. Ended up going with a custom cometic gaskets for it. $$$$$ :notnice: Just prepare for the worst and hope everything comes out alright. Good luck!! :nice:
 
Are you planning or have you already changed your valve springs out for the upgraded ones they offer for the higher lift? last I can remember I believe the stock 185 is max lift is .550?

Heres a setup run by summit and trickflow that had a dyno done on it so maybe can better guide you.

I plan on using the car for weekend cruise nights etc... not really a strip car but want enough power if I decide to have a "momentary lapse of reason".
Didn't get the spring upgrade for the AFR's dont plan on needing a huge cam but something streetable with an even power curve from say 2000rpm to 6500 rpm. nothing too radical as I am a newbie and don't want to start busting up stuff.
