This is a useless thread, but I'm about to tackle swapping out the headliner in my '90 tomorrow and wanted to know if there's anything to look out for. This is the one thing I haven't done on these cars... surprisingly. Anyone out there with experience doing it? Thanks!

Chris

Pretty straight forward. The trim along the front and above the doors is kinda a pain but that's about all of it

Thanks! Those four pieces of trim just clip in, right? No hidden fasteners anywhere? I know it would be easy enough to just go take a look, but the car is 20 miles away right now and I'm just preparing myself for the swap beforehand.

Be careful of the front trim I accidentally bent mine taking out because the fastness don't come out with the trim like the side pieces do ... its a realllllll pain in the butt

Be careful if it's the original headliner and the rest of your interior is still in the car. Ford used some kind of fibrous padding between the headliner and roof. Mine was deteriorated, so when I dropped the headliner, a million little dust particles dropped all over the inside of the car as well. It's nasty stuff.

it sucks trying to get all the holes lined up if you bought a new headliner with the pvc backing. I just ended up drilling new hold after a while it worked.

its not the best job, way better then a heater core

I was lucky enough to get an OEM black one that's pretty spotless. Which holes are you talking about exactly?

Something I did to kind of help the cloth line up with the backing (and not get snagged on anything) was I stapled the edges with a regular paper stapler. The staples eventually get covered up with the trim, and this helps fight the cloth from pulling away from the edges over time.

if you need me to swing by and deal with her giddy up, hit me up... PM me with pix first

That's encouraging to hear, since i plan on swapping both my interior/headliner and heater core this winter. :nonono:
